Default Is Minerva Park Lesbian/Gay Friendly?

My partner and I (lesbian couple of 11+ years) are moving to Columbus in a few months. I've been researching real estate and LGBT friendly neighborhoods (Clintonville, Short North, Grandview Heights, etc).

Does anyone have any information about the GLBT friendliness in Minerva Park? The housing prices and lot sizes there are very desirable. I don't need to be best friends with my neighbors...just don't want to be hassled or hated.

Thank you!

I haven't heard anything on this topic... sorry. Usually I have a 'feel' or input from clients etc. but this is an area I've not gotten that....
This was a very solid, traditional community in the 50-60's... a 'place to be'. Right now it's in transition.... there are still homeowners that have lived there forever and are moving out, and there has been a diverse influx of homeowners moving around and in the area.... There were a few new build communities nearby that are being swamped with bank-owned properties- a result of poor lending practices. Home values are not the strongest in this area at this time- that's why you're seeing the good prices.
Once you get here, visit the area and the surrounding communities- I'm sure you'll get a better feel. I'd love to see what others think as well.....

I think overall Columbus is very gay friendly, so I don't know if you'd really get hastled anywhere. However, that being said, I think you'd enjoy the Clintonville area more and Short North areas more because of the community feel and the opportunities for entertainment being close. I lived in the Clintonville area for 10 years and really loved it. So I don't think you can go wrong there as long as you like older homes.

I think once you visit and drive through the Minvera Park area versus the Clintonville area, you'll quickly see the difference and be able to determine what you like best.

Clintonville/Short North/Italian Village etc are better areas than Minerva... there's more to do and there's a ton of quaint/speciality shops.

G/L with your move... welcome=)

gay or straight, I would not buy a house east of 71 / north of Morse Rd / and inside 270 (three factors combined; talking about NE Columbus inside 270). It's just "Surburbaghetto" these days and it's only getting worse.

Check out Berwyck next to Bexley. It's newly popular with gays, it's safe, the homes / lots are big, and you can leech off the Bexley errand shopping if you wanna feel rich and trendy. Here's a quick blog that talks about Berwyck...

Did you decide whether to move to Minerva Park yet? My partner and I plan to look at homes there in a week or two. Maybe we can start a trend...

Aren't there some LGBT groups in Columbus you could inquire with about LGBT friendly places? I think you'll get better answers from the LGBT community than the general public.

It's too bad we never got to find out what happened with OP's move (if they ever did move). Same situation here...partner & I would like to possibly relocate there in next 12 months or so. Since the OP didn't keep us updated, maybe you can Bellemom and tell us what you find?

Just as long as you are white and christian, you will be fine in Columbus
(TJSell's neighborhood excepted, of course)
