OhioKid, there's a simple answer to that question about "why don't you move". Simple, a job. You can put up with a lot when you have to put bread on the table, and keep a table under the bread.
Few parks??? There are beautiful Metroparks all over the place! Inniswood is probably my favorite. Highbanks is nice, Blendon Woods, Sharon Woods... take a look at this map...

Metro Parks - Central Ohio Park System- Maps

As far as parks within the city go, Goodale Park and Schiller are gems.

You're also a fairly short drive from the Hocking Hills... which is a breathtaking area.

I really like Columbus and Central Ohio for the most part, but probably two criticisms I would have are...

1) There seems to be a pattern with development pushing further and further from the core, while letting previously middle-class areas deteriorate. It has been encouraging to see the re-emergence of areas like the Short North, Victorian Village. However, it is sad to see many the previously nice areas go downhill.
2) There seems to be somewhat of a preoccupation with social class.

For all who hate Columbus, who can tell me a midwestern city with any kind of up-swing right now besides Chicago? I mean seriously think about it. I think Columbus fares when compared to cities in the midwest, Columbus is one of the best. However I believe the city of Columbus needs to bulldose a couple of old shopping centers. Ex: the area between Wilson Rd. and I-270 on West Broad Street and many areas like it. A complete eyesore and a waste of space.

I hate Columbus and the midwest period. Winters up here are too long, cold, and snowy. We haven't even had a summer really to make up for the miserable winter last year. Columbus also tries to be what it's not and that is cosmopolitan, normally Columbus doesn't come to mind when you think of a high class/high style city.

Columbus will eventually feel the decline like most midwest/northern cities. It has already been mentioned in national media sites during discussions of the economy. This place is flooded with retail/service related jobs and happens to be one of Columbus's major employment sectors. A bad economy and layoffs/closing are likely. Take into account as well that people are also moving for better weather conditions like the SE, W, or SW and well Columbus can't hold on forever. Salaries here are not competitive enough to attract people to live/stay, pay me decent amount of money to make it worth my wild to put up with 6-8 months of winter and cold rainy summers. Why would someone chose Columbus over a city in the Southeast if they are going to get paid the same, perhaps slightly more down south with the same cost of living and a much better climate?

I live in Raleigh, and summers down here are every bit as brutal as winters up north. We had 2 straight weeks last year of 102-105 degrees in the day, 88-90 at night with extreme humidity and in the middle of an historic drought. Not exactly utopia.

What I hate about Columbus is how some locals are really negative about the place, saying it's a "Cowtown" and it's so boring blah blah.

Just drove through there not long ago.......looked rather on a down-turn to me, boring flat....nothing spectacular to really "lure" tourism or transplants.

So far I do not like the drivers...if you go to pass a slower vehicle they intentionally speed up soon as you cross over, I mean WTF who does that?! If you wanna cruise do so by all means necessary but do it in the right lane or simply get out of the way sheez!!

I moved up here from Charlotte due to a transfer and I know all about the humidity down there and yes at times it can be brutal, but the heat and humidity doesn't last as long as winter does up here in the icy north.
