Default Negatives about Columbus

Ok. My two cents worth as a longtime resident. Housing prices are not really that inexpensive. Yes there are some good deals around town but they are usually restricted to 20-30 year old less desirable sub divisions or neighborhoods say on the west or south sides. In areas like Dublin, New Albany or Powell prices are just as high or higher as other large metro areas across the country. Just a mile away from where I live a new complex was recently built with condo town homes in the 500,000 range, comparable to construction in San Diego, an area I'm familiar with. As for the weather it's either too hot or too cold. Seemingly endless winter days in the 20's and overcast. Hot, humid summers requiring a/c. Autumn is pleasant however. In the winter the city almost never plows residential streets ,even back in the days when there were not budget issues. Some winter days you may be stuck, unable even to get to work. The streets in my subdivision have not had a major resurfacing in years. They are covered with pothole and crack patches that make driving like going over cobblestones. Columbus drivers are notorious tailgaters. Even in my 25 mph zone neighborhood with an elementary school you will routinely have someone a foot off your back bumper because they think you are not going fast enough. Having said all this "home is where the heart is" and I still have a fondness for this city.

1.Aggressive rude drivers who cut people off or tailgate others. 2. Lack of decent mass transit and Columbus being car oriented in many areas. 3. the infamous I-70/I-71 split even Not in rush hour.

After reading many of gthe posts in this thread and in other threads about other cities, I see one common thing: everyone is complaining about the same things. Be it Chicago, Denver, NYC or Washington State, it seems folks are looking for a utopia that does not exist. I lived in Columbus for 3 years for school and to be honest it's no different from Chicago.here's what I mean- After the newness and excitement of a new city wares off it become just like the old city you came from. Sure it might be bigger or have more activities but after awhile it all becomes the same.

The routine is the same:school, work, pay bills, blah,blah,blah........

I really don't care where I live because I know after a while it will be the same old place. So I focus on enjoying things as is.

Columbus is a nice city......with much to offer. If you don't get out and make things happen that's your problem. Don't bash a city because it's not the perfect place.

1) People who sit in the fast lane doing 65 while 3-4 cars backup behind them. Its called the passing lane for a reason, if you're not passing people move over.
2) Using the O-H chant when OSU is not even playing anything, esp dj's and such who think its pumping up the crowd.
3) Winter
4) Ludicrously strict drinking laws that prevent a guy in his 50's from getting a beer if he doesn't have his ID

1) Any City, USA
2) That OH-IO thing typically does pump up the crowd, when in Columbus ...
3) I'm from the South, and even I can handle the Winters here!
4) Looking young in your 50's is a good thing.

I really hate that so many hate Columbus. C'mon guys, this place could be worse. Cbus is just fine!

I in no way hate cbus as a whole, the thread just asked what I hate about it. The driving thing is more prevalent in OHIO, so maybe I should not use that against cbus. and the O-H thing is so annoying and it makes everyone who visits realize how ludicrously obsessed we are with those buckeyes. I mean if its football season then fine, but when its mid February and no game is on what is the point?

Columbus is AWESOME. Period.
Only thing I dislike is lack of rail service both light rail and Amtrak otherwise this is god's country!
People who hate it here should pack up and move... I won't shed a tear....

Also about the tailgating.. yea it happens and it's rampant here but what can ya do about it? As for left lane drivers on the freeway they are annoying but theres usually 3 or 4 other freeway lanes just pick one and move on.
The world will be plagued with leftys forever.
My favorite 270 kinda lefty are the ones who are in the far left lane, eating, holding a cell phone doing 55 with a left blinker on for 5 miles.
