Columbus sucks! I made the mistake of moving there for a job. It's a cow town with bad drivers (who can't do the speed limit), awful pizza and a cultish worship of OSU. Plus, whenever it does snow the town freaks out and shuts down. Level Three Snow Emergency? One word, deal with it! I'm so glad to be gone from Columbus and back in my hometown (Chicago).

I've enjoyed reading through these posts...
I have lived in South Florida for 10 years.
Nothing more subjective than the preference of wheather, ugh?
I think I would miss the sun, although I really didn't see much of it for the last 7 days down here in Miami... Pouring rain and lots of heat and humidity every day. Commute was tricky.
It has been sunny since Friday, I must admit
I think I will need to figure out other ways to have fun and enjoy the outdoors that don't require a sunny day in Columbus.
Any ideas? I am not much of an inside person. But I am not afraid to bundle up, get a rain coat and go out. Are parks "visitable" during the gray days you talk about?
I've been in Montreal and Detroit in February. nobody stops, people go to work, children go to school.
Do schools close when there is snow? That would be a problem if it means missing work, and the subsecuent reduced paycheck...
As per the party going, all I need is a good circle of friends and we can have a party anytime, no matter what is closed or open. i do not need an open pub or mall to keep the party going.
I wander sometimes if I am forcing the issue too much, but my desire for a better and more affordable quality of life is strong.
South Florida can not give me that...unless I win the lottery. But then it wouldn't matter where I live...

Boo-hoo. Yet another person who came to Columbus expecting one thing and found another. Places are what you make of them. Complaining that Columbus isn't Chicago is like complaining that Chicago isn't New York.

So what? Northern Europe is overcast much of the year, yet the liberal elite in this country thinks it's heaven on Earth over there. The weather is what it is. Stop griping about it. If you can't find fun even when the skies are gray, then the problem is you.

Cripes, why don't you step off the ledge and calm down? If you look around this forum, you'll find me a pretty big champion of Columbus. And if you'll also notice, I lived there for over a quarter century. So if you're going to bark at me for running down Columbus, I'd suggest you find another target to vent whatever's eating you.
But Columbus's weather in the winter sucks. There's really no two ways about it. And I have absolutely no idea how either "Northern Europe" or "liberal elite" entered this conversation.

Sorry if I took it out on you. I just tire of hearing folks gripe about the winters in any Midwestern city. It's not going to change.

Hold on now, with global warming you should be able to plant palm trees in Columbus in a few years.

It's a conservative talking point from around 2006. Somebody needs to get the new notes...
The weather in Cbus is not really that bad. I'm from Canada, so people calling the winter here "extreme" are funny. Last winter, we had a week of really cold weather, and 1 major snowstorm (the ice event in February). People do overreact to the snow here - the city doesn't really get that much of it - maybe an inch or two during a storm. I'd say that winter in Columbus was from January to early March this year, and summer's been here since May. The sunless days are hard to take, though.
C'mon guys - there are plenty of other things to hate about this city! how about the Buckeyes? Especially to those who really don't care about sports to begin with. The fans are nauseating come early September.

Actually, it's also silly to hate on Ohio State. You may not be a sports fan, but OSU is one of the most significant public universities in the country, so it can't help but be a huge force in the community.
