Living on $8 is practically impossible anywhere, but Columbus at least gives you a fighting chance. In many cities, you'd be completely out of luck. I didn't appreciate how inexpensive a city like Columbus was until I moved east.

dblockindabuildin is on a distinguished road
for the most part I like living here. Can't stand the drivers. They consistently go 5-10 miles below the listed speed limit. Also hate the parking. Cleveland Ave. is a MAJOR thoroughfare through the city. Cars are allowed to park on the side making it ONE LANE each way in many areas, making it incredibly easy to get stuck behind parked cars since they are impossible to see until you are about a block behind them. For the most part its pretty decent here, though. Very average. When I'm done with college I'll leave but its fine for now.

QFT. Although I have never seen drivers going 10 mph below the limit. I am usually concerned about how they nearly rear end you when they pass you on the freeway.

Oh man, I see that all the time in Columbus. I've never seen so many cars travelling 50-55 mph in the left lane of a freeway. A great percentage of them seem to have their blinkers on.

I'd definitely be up for taking that route over risking getting wrecked by some impatient idiot.

Both are equally dangerous. Travelling 10-15 mph below the speed limit (which equates to 15-20 mph below what most people are driving)--particularly in the left lane--is reckless driving as well, albeit of a different sort. Cars in the left lane should be at or slightly above the posted speed limit--slower cars should keep to the right.

Left lane is for cell phones and texting.
(from observations on I-71)

A few things stick out to me about Columbus.

1) The mindset that Columbus is much larger of a city than it actually is.
How many times do you hear people say "well it is the 15th largest city"?
You cannot judge the size of an area based on the city proper population.
So Columbus is a larger area than Atlanta? DC? Boston? SF? I think not!
You have to take into consideration a lot of cities cannot annex due to suburban growth therefore the city proper population is smaller than Columbus. And for the record its now the 16th largest. Austin passed it up.

2) The crazy OSU fan base! What is up with this? It just makes Columbus look so bored and uncultured that there is nothing else to do but worship a college football team. Its even funnier that a lot of the fans have no affiliation with the school at all. Its almost like they feel social pressure to be fans so they will fit into the Columbus social scene.

3) The unspoken racism. I know people like to think of Columbus as progressive and it is to a degree. But the proof is in the pudding. City Center mall is a great example of the white flight to the burbs when minorities began shopping there. I heard the "N" word more in Columbus than I ever did in Atlanta or DC.

Ok I feel better now that I got that off my chest
