My husband took a job in Columbus and we really found a nice house in the Dublin area with Dublin schools, we have been told they are some of the best. My problem is we have heard some unsettling things about the area and the kids in the schools. We are a friendly blue collar working middle class family,My husband is a die maker and I am a florist,My husband has a little college but I have none. My point is where we live now is in a very white collar area where all the kids are left home alone after school, there spoiled with to much freedom and money, needless to say I HATE it here, I dont fit in at all. Sometimes when you have the best education system it doesnt always mean it's the best learning enviroment . I dont want my kids put down for what they do or dont have. Anyhting anyone knows of the area would be great. We really love the house we found but I am not going through the same sh*t with spoiled bratty kids that I am going through here. I am really hoping someone tells me that it's not like that there.

Don't ever move to Dublin if that is what you want to get out of... I would suggest moving to somewhere a little more outside Columbus and the suburbs, especially the Dublin, Worthington, Upper Arlington area... I would suggest somewhere either to the East or West of Columbus, I myself am from Plain City a small town west of Dublin and although we have good schools, it is a very blue collar/farming community, and it definitely is not the only community of its kind in the area

Now what's wrong or To Hate with kids having too much freedom? What's your ideal situation with kids? Extra curiculum? Thought that would be your children's choice? |

i don't think the problem is extra curriculum i think it is that other children are shamelessly given everything they want and in turn this makes any children who don't have million dollar parents feel not only uncool but worthless

Growing up in Dublin, I can assure you, it is not a place you want to live. You would also want to avoid Upper Arlington and Bexley, but there are plenty of other places that would be better. Hilliard is nice if you want to stay closer to the west side

Dublin is extremely upper-class. I was going to say Hilliard just up the freeway is very nice, but not so stuck up.

Dublin is very "nuevo riche," and if you're worried about shallow people behaving badly as a result of being overstretched by mortgages, credit card and car payments I can't think of anywhere worse than Dublin.
Put it this way... When the movie "Clueless" came out, I went to see the movie in Dublin... My friend and I were laughing out loud from beginning to start, but the Dublin HS kids that packed the theatre were very quiet and not laughing at all. |

Dublin is generally a fairly affluent area, and keeping up with the neighbors is frequently a bit of an issue.
I don't think many are overstretched financially though, the home prices are fairly reasonable relative to household income. The average family ends up having quite a bit of disposable income, and the area has a bit of "conspicuous consumption". Lot's of nice cars and kids with their own cell phones and i-pods. Many folks belong to a country club, and golf is a MAJOR activity. You may like areas like Clintonville, Worthington and Hillard a bit more than Dublin, if this stuff is of concern. |
