You may want to consider staying with your family in Newark looking for a job and then based upon where you work decide where you want to live that way you can possibly avoid the areas with heavy traffic.

Well it clearly is not Columbus someplace else to consider is Lancaster Ohio. Lancaster is about 45 minutes south of New York there should be housing in your price range and would be an easy drive between the two. The issue with Lancaster is if you work in Columbus the traffic on US Route 33 into Columbus can be gruesome.

The actual suburbs in Columbus that I would consider if I were you are Gahanna, Upper Arlington, New Albany, Grandview Heights.

The other areas that are not technically a suburb but are nearby and a commutable distance are Lancaster, Carroll, West Jefferson, Circleville, Ashville, Johnstown, and Granville.
I think you missed her $65-70K price point. Gahanna is the only one on that list that may have that.

Traffic is meaningless until we find out if she is still working, and where, or a retiree. Plus saying the outer suburbs have too much traffic while recommending much further commutes makes no sense.

Great thing is everyone has a different opinion and view. I for one, would rather have longer commute distance wise (with less traffic) than a shorter commute distance wise (that takes the same amount of time). I hate sitting and not moving on the freeways.

I am clearly offering the OP more options and more possibilities. The OP also stated once present the OP would obtain employment. Which is why I recommend staying with family in Newark and obtaining the employment prior to deciding where to reside.

As for the Gahanna being the only true suburb in her price range, honestly, I've never priced a condo anywhere in Franklin County, or the surrounding counties. I truly don't know condo costs in central Ohio. I did explain what areas I would live and why though. I am certain the OP could find a condo or a home in the outer lying communities I recommend within her price range. Depending her the OPs profession, the OP could possibly find employment in those areas as well. Especially the larger cities like Lancaster.
