This is Salt Lake's downtown - stale past 1am, not really cohesive (most streets are
really wide so you don't get that feeling of tall buildings surrounding you, with the exception of Main Street). Most people will rant, "All of it is run by the Church!" Which, if it's true, isn't noticeable.
Make sure no one convinces you that Salt Lake City has 180,000 people, because what everyone considers Salt Lake City has, as of the latest estimate, 1,100,000 people. The Salt Lake City with 180,000 people is just what's within the city limits set in the 1840s; the metro area has long ago expanded beyond those boundaries. Your metro area has 500,000 more people but outside Downtown I'm sure it doesn't make much difference. I've never been to Columbus though but you can compare from the info I'm given you; hope this helps
