New Albany??
I've heard this area is VERY expensive to live in. Anyone know much about it? How are the schools, is it safe?
Thanks

We like it so far
We just moved here a few months ago and we really like it. It is expensive in the subdivision we're in but there are less expensive options throughout the town. The town is just absolutely beautiful! The first time I drove through, I thought it was really old. I was blown away when I heard it was barely 10 years old. There really wasn't anything here 10 years ago but Les Wexner from the Limited had a vision to recreate a "classic" community and he's done a good job. The schools are excellent but right now there's a lot of money being diverted to build a performing arts center. Zero crime here! Nice neighbors too. The best part of New Albany is it's proximity to Easton Town Center. That's half the reason we moved to this side of town. What else do you need to know?

^New Albany truly is a great town. Its growing quite quickly though. The scenery around the area is very nice too.

Thanks for the replies! I have heard that there are something like 14 or 15 classes per grade in the schools! Whoa! We have a first grader and LOVE the school he goes to right now (we live about 1 hr. north of New Albany) So the schools are real priority for us. That just seems crazy to me I heard that when the kids start school after summer that there are SO many different classes they could get put into it's like they are starting a completley new school.
My hubby just took a job in Westerville and we got the chance to drive through New A. and we loved it! It's very nice and quaint! Do the schools look as nice on the inside as they do on the outside?
Thanks

New Albany, OH:
1. OUTRAGEOUS property taxes.
2. OVERVALUED homes.
3. Lots of bored, gossipy housewives.
4. Spoiled kids.
5. There IS crime - just check the local paper.
6. Homes too close together.
7. Lots of wealth for people who frankly don't deserve it considering the "work" they do - yeah, that means you, Mr. "The Limited " executive living in the NACC in your McMansion. HINT: You're not paid to work here, you're paid to live here, because Columbus is nothing in the world of fashion.
8. Lots of "keeping up with the Jones'" attititude.
9. Schools are not THAT great.
10. Again, OUTRAGEOUS property taxes. C'mon people - when are you going to start revolting???

That's pretty hilarious. You're not bitter are you?
New Albany is a nice spot. Downside is the area is starting to boom and they're going to need to widen some roads to compensate for the traffic. If you like to bike/run, they have some great trails for that. Close to metro parks, Easton, shopping, stores .. what else can you say. Higher property taxes because you're in a premium area with great schools. And Columbus wouldn't be as well off without Wexner. His generosity to the city is enormous.

It should be nice...Very Nice. For the year 2006 the average sale price of homes in New Albany was $515000with 3214 sq ft 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths. The least expensive was 85000 2 bedroom 1 bath with 1170 sq feet(taxes =3344 annually/279 monthly). One home with 3574 sq ft payed 7714 annually/643 monthly in taxes. Homes under 200000 are hard to come by. Reminds me of Public Schools versus Private schools. Public schools must take all and private can be selective. Taxes have done this to many communities as well.

New Albany is a GREAT community and I would highly reccommend living here. You do not have to spend HUGE $ for a house. There are affordable areas if you go outside of the country club community. Hampstead Village and The Preserve are both affordable. The schools are great with amazing facilities and teachers. I would reccommend NA to anyone with a young family.

Moving to New Albany
Hi, we are moving to New Albany from Pennsylvania and are very excited about move. However, I'm also nervous. Can some moms who live there tell me their thoughts on the area with regards to kids, parents, moms, the area in general? My biggest fear is that we move there and feel the pressure of "keeping up with the joneses" (not that we would try, we're not that type of people), or that our children are constantly pressured in school with all the affluence there. Thanks
