newbuckeye is on a distinguished road
I recently moved to Columbus from out of state (Washington, DC area). The main reason was because it had become so expensive and as a single mom, I could not afford a home in DC. I found a lovely home in the Hilltop area in the price range that the originator of this thread is looking at. So far, I have had few problems. I am within walking distance of a library, bus line, convenience stores, etc. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to buy in the "safe" neighborhoods (i.e., higher prices). Also, just because housing prices are lower does not mean that the calibre of residents is low. From all indications, everyone on my block goes to work everyday, there are active neighborhood watches, the yards are maintained, no loud music or parties, no hanging out on the corners. Two days after I moved in, I was greeted by the neighborhood watch coordinator with a basket welcoming me to the neighborhood. Flags fly proudly (both US flags and OSU flags!). I am very happy with the choice I made in housing. Do your research--there are so many sites where you can check crime, property values, etc. Also, if you are in need of a real estate agent, let me know. I worked with a wonderful person who is a great negotiator! Good luck in your search and I hope to see you on the Hilltop!

Kudos to you, newnurse...I just happened to look at 'think-urban', and was astonished at the sheer depth of information available there...we could really use something exactly like this down Cincinnati way
