West Side of Columbus
I live on the West side of Columbus and I am noticing more and more the burst in hispanic population on this side of town. I do not mind hispanics being here, but the majority do not speak English and they show no interest in doing so. This in turn causes long delays in check outs at stores, etc. due to the communication barriers. Are there any programs in Columbus that offer tutoring to these masses to help them learn English?

Boy aren't we narrow minded. How do you know they don't have any interest in learning english? You said "You don't mind" them being there!! Who made you the "mayor" of the westside? Gee-whiz, foucs on your life and leave them alone.
If you want english speaking people, why not volunteer and teach them to speak english?
I hope they take over the westside just to annoy people like you with your entitlement mentality!!!

Before flames erupt here remember that this topic, while sensitive, can be discussed without accusations and name calling.

Entitlement? I'm not sure where that came from, but i think what the original poster was try to say was that there needs to be a way to help these new immigrants learn the language of our country. I'm not sure if there are any wide ranging programs, but i know that Northwest Chapel Church offers free English classes, and i would assume other Churches in the area do as well.

I have known many legal and illegal, and hispanics, and these days most of them have been to school, and learned english in Mexico. This is convenient , for local business, because these people can get into state paid job training and work for less money than you can, because they share a house and a truck with 25 other people, and the baby-mama collects welfare and social services. As more of your aggravated nieghbors move, they will import all their friends and family from mexico, and get them hooked up, and you will find yourself living in a barrio. But they still won't speak english to you, because they don't want to. And if you say anything, you're called a racist. Instead of calling for programs to educate them, you should call ICE and homeland security.

They are moving to the west side because, as most people in Columbus know, it is dirt cheap to live there. It just makes sense to anyone who is getting paid less, regardless of race or nationality.
Do you expect them to move to Upper Arlington?

Omg.....
their should be english immersion though..I agree with that. Somebody could need help or use it as a tool to move into another income class. Most Mexicans are here to work save/send money back home and then move back someday.

Exactly... to use us and not to be a part of our country. Not all of them are like that, but too many are, imo. To me, this country means more than that. If that sounds like the raving of some racist, uneducated redneck, it's not. If we don't value what we have, I guess we don't deserve it.
