Please help....
My family and I are moving from LA and we are a bit in the dark. I'd love real info from "real" people. We're looking for a house, up to $250,000. I have two teenage boys, so good schooling and safety is important. The places that catch my eye are Worthington, Westerville, Gahanna, and Pickerington. My husband doesn't want to be too far from a mall, not in the "boonies". Can you please give me your thoughts about these places? Thanks!

Hopefully you listed those places in order, on purpose, because that is exactly how most anyone in C-bus would rate the areas mentioned. Worthington is by far the best with Pickerington being...blechh.

I would add Lewis Center, Dublin and Hilliard to your listing too.

Pickerington is poorly planned, and the traffic there gets horrible.

For more house for your money, I'd try Hilliard and Westerville. Hilliard is a little closer to rural areas to the WEst, and yet only 10 minutes to the mall. Westerville is nice too. Another nice area to check out is Dublin -- although it seems the money doesn't go as far with housing there and taxes seem higher. With the teenage boys in mind, I'd choose Hilliard ---for the schools--- although that was my choice after a lengthy relocation process and much research, so I'm a little biased. We were looking in the same price range of $250k, and ended up closer to $170k with a nicer/newer home than we could've found elsewhere. It's nice having the extra money that would've went to the mortgage payments had we chose any other house in any other neighborhood. In our situation, we aren't planning on staying forever, so we also had to keep in mind choosing an area/price range that moves houses for whenever we plan to get back home. I love the programs offered by the community center here and that there is a very nice new YMCA in the area.
