Upper Arlington, or Dublin?
Hello, my fiance and I are going to be moving to Columbus from San Diego this fall and both will be working at the OSU Medical Center. She lived there for 1 year during a residency and I visited 6-7 times so we are both somewhat familiar with the area. We ideally would like to purchase a home in Upper Arlington or Dublin (which from what we've heard and seen are the 2 best areas).
Our ideal price range would be 350-400K, we could possibly go a little higher. The way I see it the tradeoff would be a longer commute to the hospital from Dublin but probably a nicer/newer house. We both would love to have the very short commute from Upper Arlington as long as we could get a decent place (3 bed, 2 bath house) in that price range.
I think we're leaning toward UA over Dublin, any suggestions or thoughts on what that price range will get us? Thanks!
Jim

Both are great areas, but I prefer UA, particularly since you will both be working at OSU Medical Center. You couldn't ask for a shorter commute!
My husband and I looked at homes in both areas about a year ago before we ended up moving out of state. UA is pricey compared to the rest of Ohio, but you should be able to get 3-4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths in UA for around $400,000. The home will most likely be older, and perhaps in need of VERY minor cosmetic updates. The area is very well-established, the schools are highly rated, it's very safe...and if you are looking to move up in a few years, the resale value is better in UA.
You can get more for your money in Dublin, but certain areas have more traffic congestion (although I am sure it's nothing compared to Cali) and there are more apartment complexes throughout Dublin.
Best of luck with your move, and GO BUCKS :-)

I agree with the pp. UA is a wonderful place to live and it is very close to OSU. However, if you like newer homes, you will not find them in UA. You will see that for the same money you can get a bigger, newer house in Dublin. That said, UA is a better investment and, IMO, if you like well established neighborhoods this is the place to go.

agree with the above, its the old well establishes good property values (UA)VS newer home, more for your money, but a field around you and not much to look at but highways and a few newly planted trees(Dublin)

As an outsider (from Hilliard), Upper Arlington seems to have a little more low-key attitude, whereas Dublin is a little more self-conscious and 'on'. One point in Dublin's favor would be some of the amenities. Dublin has a very nice community recreation center. I don't think Upper Arlington has anything comparable. Good Luck!

I believe they decided against Ohio.
