First Powell is not the wealthiest city in the state and Columbus does not have 2 million people.

As of 2005 the Census Bureau estimates that Columbus MSA has 1.7 million people and the CSA has 1.9 million. So 2 million is close.

I am sorry that things worked out this way for you though.
I would say that Clintonville, Beechwold, and Berwick neighborhoods in Columbus are family friendly and down to earth. As well as Grandview Heights suburb. These areas are all closer to the central city and Ohio State so the down to earth more liberal effect comes into play.
Dublin is a newer suburb and Powell is a little further out and into the next county as well. Just to give a geographical description.
And yes Columbus is a metro of 2 million, many are transplants and many are young and have money coming here for jobs or school. You will find many individuals here who flaunt there self and style like a coastal city. Those who come to Columbus looking for complete great lakes midwest charm might be thrown off.

'Liberal' doesn't necessarily mean 'more friendly', just as 'conservative' doesn't necessarily connote 'unfriendly' or 'shallow'. Incomes in Hilliard and Worthington are similar (median household income in Hilliard is a little higher, per capita income in Worthington is a little higher), but I'd say people in Hilliard are friendlier and more down to earth than those in Worthington, despite Worthington being more politically liberal.

You can find great people in Columbus, but you will also find the type of people you are trying to avoid. Depending on what type of neighborhood you are looking for will determine the type of people you will encounter. Bexley is great, but central and south Bexley have great, friendly people. We live in Westgate (a pocket neighborhood near downtown) and there are so many great people in this neighborhood. It's a mix of young families and older people that have lived here since the area began in the late 20's and early 30's. If you have school age children and don't want to send them to private schools, this would not be the neighborhood for you as it is Columbus Public Schools. All in all, Columbus is a very friendly city with lots to do and plenty to see. Fishing and wildlife are all just minutes away.
Good luck with the search!

Of course theres wealthy residents all over the state, but Powell is now the wealthiest suburb in Ohio, once it use to be some of the Cleveland suburbs.
ANd yes, Columbus metro is just under 2million.

No, Powell's per capita income is $46,257. For Huntingvalley, Ohio a Cleveland suburb its over $144,000 (Making it the Fourth richest nationally). Even Indian Hill a Cincy suburb has a median income higher than Powell. I'm not going to look it up right now, but I'm willing to bet there are plenty other Ohio cities with per capita income well in excess of $46,000.
