Job offer in Zanesville...where to live?
I currently live in Atlanta, GA and have received a job offer in Zanesville. I am a single mom with a 10 year old boy. Great schools are a must. I also do not want a long commute. Is this area pretty diverse? I am African American and currently live in a very diverse area in Atlanta....hoping to find the same IF I accept this job and relocate. Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks for the links. If anybody here can please provide some info on where to live, that would be great. Then I can check out the schools in that area. At this point, I don't know which schools to research because I have no clue about the areas that they are in.

If you don't want a long commute, then Zanesville is where you will want to be. It would be way too long of a commute (1 hour plus) from Columbus one way.
Zanesville has a certain charm to it. It's located in the hills of eastern Ohio along Interstate 70. It has a nice historic core. I personally don't know about shopping or the schools, for that matter.
Zanesville is certainly not as diverse as Atlanta.

My family and I lived in zanesville for a very short time. We are originally from North Carolina. It is a nice place to live, however, they are not very accepting of outsiders. Most people there have been there since before dirt. No one was mean to us, but no one was friendly to us either. My daughter had a very hard time in the school she was in, and she was a straight A student. Zanesville is basically surrounded by a few smaller areas that make up Muskingum Co. including Adamsville (which is where we lived), Maysville, and Newark. Zanesville the city part is a little bit more diverse than the outerlying areas. HTH.
Came back in to add they have their own newspapper online zanesvilletimesrecorder.com I dont know if I can post this here or not.

Zanesville is 2 counties away from Columbus. None of the other Craigslist zones you listed is closer than 2 counties away.
You'll probably find that you have to use the Zanesville newspaper classifieds on the web in order to find something.

If the public schools of Zanesville don't impress you, consider the Catholic schools.

Live in Zanesville.....
I grew up in Zanesville & recently moved back after 13 years. A good school in the area is Maysville (south side). The school is new and is definitely in a nice as well as safe area. Look in the south part (off 22) of Zanesville or another nice area is the north end (around Maple ave.) You can look on rent.com or apartments. com or even the zanesville times recorder in order to find apartments, houses, or condos to rent or buy. When we moved back to the area we found more places for rent and sale by driving around than what we found in the paper & online. If you have any other questions I would be happy to help as I know how scary it is moving to a differ location that you know nothing about! Good Luck!
