Default Hoagies, Subs, or Grinders

What are subs called in Columbus? How are they? Also how is the pizza? Is there a lot of Chicago style food around being closer to Chicago than PA?

I also have to ask, are there any Penn Station sub chains in the Columbus area?

Yes, there is a Penn Station in the Polaris area.

We have a real mix of sandwich places here. W.G. Grinders is a popular local chain, though I haven't personally eaten there. Subway, of course. Jersey Mike's (one of my favs) has several locations here.

Charley's Grilled Subs has a lot of restaurants here.

I can't say that Chicago style food is that popular here. Good luck trying to find a Chicago style hot dog or an Italian beef sandwich. Chicago deep dish style pizza isn't very common here, either. Thin crust by way of popular local chain Donato's is king here.

There is a Pizzeria Uno near Tuttle Crossing Mall that serves deep dish pizza, but that's the only place I can think of.

It's too bad, because I like Chicago cuisine. But, it seems like Columbus has been heavily influenced by Cleveland and Cinncinnati, in addition to a great deal of chain style food.

I generally enjoyed Grinder's sandwiches when I lived in Columbus. However, I would say the most authentic Philly Cheesesteak I have eaten since leaving Philly (where I grew up) is Benny's:

Benny's Cheesesteaks!

Penn Station in Hilliard too, moved in on Cemetary Rd. where Just Pie Pizza used to be in front of Aldi's.

There are plenty of Penn Station locations.

I hear them called Subs mainly - on a side note, WG Grinders is the BEST sub place in Columbus
