Are there any frequent travelers out there?
We are in the process of relocating (thanks in part to the great advice from this board) to Columbus. Since I travel quite a bit for work I was getting a few plans set up and cannot seem to find a single airline that flies directly to the SF Bay Area (I checked all three major airports). Are the flights out of CMH rather limited? While it didnt seem like the biggest airport ever it certainly seemed more than capable of major flights when I was last there! I am really hoping someone out there can tell me if any airline has a hub there and might have more flights/choices out of CMH than others. Thanks in advance! Sara |

You are right, there are no direct flights right now to San Fran. You can get just about anywhere in one stop, but if you want a direct flight you will have to drive to Cincinnati or Cleveland. Southwest (they do not sell their tickets on Expedia or other 3rd party websites) also flies to several locations from here, though not SF.
The airport is really quite under-used since they lost their America West hub a few years ago. However, the big news around here is a new startup, Skybus Airlines, is placing its hub at CMH. They just moved into their offices and are slated to be starting service in the spring. Speculation is that it will serve major destinations with no current N/S service to CMH like San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, San Antonio, Kansas City, West Palm Beach, Portland and Jacksonville. http://www.columbusdispatch.com/busi...p?story=222016 |

A useful resource for finding good airfares out of Columbus is http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/FareS...9/Default.aspx
It's cheap to take weekend trips to cities in the Northeast, Midwest. SOmetimes you can find good deals to the West coast as well.. The Columbus airport is highly regarded as it is easily accessible via the interstate and few traffic jams exist in Columbus.. |
