^ Thank you for that post. I will have to take a drive or walk around there and check out the neighborhood more for myself. I have driven through it before and it did seem to have a really wide variety of housing stock, also aren't they renovating the local high school East High? Is that considered to be in your neighborhood?

East High is getting a huge renovation and yes it is just within the boundaries of Woodland Park proper. I also forgot to mention the development at Nelson and East Broad, a mixed use retail center will open this fall with restaurants and neighborhood supportive retail (dry cleaners, bank, etc) We do have a wonderful mix of living options. The area is actually about the size of German Village but with much less density due to the larger homes, big yards, two boulevard streets, and the park behind the YMCA on Woodland Avenue.
Please do check us out!

I'm looking into an area that is sandwiched between Broad and Main. Around Bryden & 18th and also another apartment on Broad right over 71. Also, what about Fair ave right next to Franklin Park? I am a 20 year old female who will be living alone and goes to CCAD. Is it a good idea to live in this area?

I miss The Dell on Parsons. BJ Youngs was a cool pub back when I lived there also. Too bad they are gone.
Any new places to report?

Wow, I'm really glad I found this forum. I'm in a similar position as the OP (husband not keen on the area) and it's great to get information and opinions from people who actually live in these neighborhoods.
We live in a suburb in Blacklick right now, and are looking to move next year. Our biggest concern with moving to this general area is that we have a five year old son, although it does sound like these neighborhoods aren't nearly as crime-ridden as we though.
I'm crappy at directions and maps, so I'm hoping that if I post a few houses that I'm interested in, that someone here could tell me which neighborhood they're in.
Like, this house: 1444 E Broad St, Columbus, OH, 43205 - Single Family Home Real Estate - Realtor.com
Appears to me to be in the Franklin Park area, but seems to be really close to Woodland Park as well.
BTW, I'm not taking this house too seriously because there are no interior pics, and considering the low price for so many square feet, I'm guessing it's a fixer-upper.
Anyway, thanks in advance to whoever helps me find the perfect old house in the perfect old CBus neighborhood.

i have a house in eastgate, just north of franklin park. it's quite safe and cheap.
you know what you're doing. you have the arguments laid out. it's just a matter of what you (and your hubby) want and what your priorities are (safety? cost? etc).

I would definitely recommend relocating to Olde Town East. The area has some of the most beautiful homes in the Columbus area, and although crime rates are somewhat high compared to the rest of the metro area, most of it is confined to private residences. That is not to say that there is not the occassional mugging or robbery, but it is certainly not the norm.
The taxes within the city are a fraction of what you can expect to pay in a suburb, and to be truthful, many of the suburbs have some fairly seedy areas. ALthough OTE has some more run-down areas, the difference is that the majority of the people in this area are committed to making their neighborhoods great places to live for all of their residents, whether they be older blacks or younger whites.
And in response to people who say that OTE is 'ghetto' ( a term which is so problematic that i will not even go there), I will say that the majority of your neighbors may not be high-income, and also not white. That does NOT make the area 'ghetto'. The diversity of the area should be considered a draw, not a detriment.

I am researching more about old town east I am an artist diverse friendly and wondering the do's and don't's as I have read up on flag wars. What happened now? It is years past that? Seems like there are some great steals of beautiful property but I have also seen the blight and gun fire will the area come back?
