Default Scene - Things To Do?

Hello!

I have very limited experience in Columbus. I had a friend who lived in Dublin, by Tuttle mall and it was the most god awful place I have ever been to in my life. If we went anywhere it involved driving on highways to another strip mall with chain restuarants etc....

The last time I was in Columbus I went to the Nationwide Arena area and walked around there a bit. I went up High Street and found some interesting looking bars and folks but nothing that screamed good music venue or all that interesting.

I have read through threads on here and they seem to confirm that Columbus is boring, dull and a typical suburban city.

I will be coming into Columbus this week and may stay through the weekend. I am looking for something interesting to do downtown or in the vicinity of the fun area. I would like to see the areas that have a little soul to them and areas with cheap apartments ($500 and under, cleanliness and safety not as much an issue as closeness to downtown, I won't have a vehicle if I move to Columbus).

If anyone can tell me where to go, what areas are worth checking out I would be much obliged.

German Village/ Brewery District area are close to downtown have great bars and if you decide you would rather go out downtown its only about a $10 cab ride no highways. There are many new bars open downtown such as Bar Louie, Spice, Sugar. If you want something more low key High Beck is fun in german village, alot of locals go there. There are other bars across the street too. As far as apartments check out Metro-Rentals.com.

When you get to C-bus the next time, go immediately to Surly Girl Saloon... then take a walk around the neighborhood traveling south and you will find what you are looking for in the way of "For Rent" signs to record the telephone numbers in your scratch pad.

Surly Girl Saloon

Oh, and yep they have punk rock aerobics. hah.

To answer the question:
MUSIC VENUES

The LC music Pavilion, the Newport Music Hall, and numerous bars around the city are your best bet. Columbus has a great music scene, but you cannot just wander around and expect to bump into it.

Go to Columbus Alive : columbusalive.com to find a listing of all events, upcoming.

Also, search the two major music venue names i dropped. For larger venues the Crew Stadium and Nationwide Arena are commonly used. Sometimes Veterans Memorial.
