I would not recommend living downtown... I think you'll have a much better experience in any one of of the excellent inner-city neighborhoods. There are lots of apartments in Victorian Village and Harrison West. Italian Village, Grandview Heights, German Village, and the Arena District are all nice as well. Downtown is dead outside of 8-5 M-F... The nearby neighborhoods are FANTASTIC though.

Have you searched the forum for related posts? Many people have had similar questions and I am sure there is some good information.
Are you picturing a thriving downtown area? If so, the Arena District is probably a good bet for you. I guess I consider that to be downtown.
Maybe if you elaborate on what you want beyond "safe" (doesn't everyone want a safe neighborhood) people could tailor suggestions to your needs. Do you want to live downtown so you can walk to work or are you seeking a vibrant area? Price range? Amenities?

My husband and I are in our late twenties, no kids and live at Sixty Spring downtown. 3 blocks to work and 1 block to Nationwide Arena district and short north area. Love it there! Rent is reasonable and includes gym, gas, tv and indoor garage space!
