Pataskala is an area that had been very rural until the past five or so years. Crime rate out there is very low. The closest area to there that would be of concern to me would be in the Brice Rd vicinity.

Thanks for your reply. I have a relative who is considering moving into Pataskala. Can you tell me your concerns regarding the Brice Rd vicinity. Again, thank you.

The concerns would be that there are some apartments with mixed incomes near, or off of, Brice Rd.
However, it is not a hood or terrible area. It is what you see in many "suburban/annexed" sections of Columbus, miles out from downtown, these days:
Neighborhoods that have middle class homes, most kept up well, with surrounding apartment complexes. Some of those complexes are nice others have mixed incomes. This doesn't mean you should be affraid to live near someone with less money than yourself, but there would be an occasional crime here and there.
It should be noted, most crimes, especially murders in Columbus, occur between two people who know each other. The last few terrible ones this year were a husband killing his wife then himself and a father killing his daughter than himself.
It is truely sad. However, you do not need to move to Pataskala (though it's a quaint area) to be safe.
Columbus is a city so things will happen, but I live in the middle of Columbus and feel that the near-north and near-south sides of the central city are very safe for urban areas in the 15th largest city in the U.S.

Thanks for the info. I will pass it along to my aunt. She just wants to avoid areas with gangs, drugs, high crime, etc.

Most of the murders in Columbus mostly happen in only 50sq. miles of the city.

I have lived in Columbus for twelve years, and most of the heinous crimes I hear about happen in the city...not the suburbs. Of course anything can happen anywhere, but it seems that crime is mainly in the East side of the city, and some parts of the West side of downtown. I don't know much about Pataskala, but I think you should at least take a drive and check out the neighborhoods because you can get a lot of information about an area simply by driving by. That is how I have chosen apartments to live in, places to work and play, etc. Use your judgement..if you don't feel comfortable driving down the street, you most likely won't want to live there. Good luck!
