Default Renting In Suburbs

Hi all. My husband is in the middle of interviewing for a new position in the columbus area. His office will be in Westerville. We are a family with one child and dog and cat. We would like to rent for the first year to get our feet wet, but try to stay in a school district.

Can you make recommendations on neighborhoods / areas with good schools and we would like our rental payment to stay around $1500 per month (but can go up to $2k if needed). We would like a community pool that is easy to get to (my son is a competitive swimmer). He is identified gifted. so it is important to have differentiated instruction or at least some really great opportunities.

Any suggestions? ideas?

Oh, commute time isn't a big deal, my DH likes to drive before and after work to wind down from his day. I know, weird, huh????

thanks in advance!!!

That's pretty funny. Lucky guy!

If the office will be in Westerville, you should check out Westerville (north of Schrock Road), New Albany, Gahanna and areas with Olentangy schools. Are you looking to rent a house, townhome or apartment?

You shouldn't have trouble finding something for $1500, but your best chance of a community pool would likely be an apartment or townhome community, and then it would just be seasonal. Westerville has a nice, newer rec center (with indoor pool), and it's pretty cheap for residents. I think Westerville also has outdoor pools which are open from Memorial to Labor Day.

Search the forum and you will find a lot of good information about the areas that have been mentioned thus far.

Westerville has a wonderful new Rec Center. You may also consider Worthington, Gahanna or New Albany which are nearby and have great schools with swim teams. There are new YMCA's in several of the NE suburbs that can be joined as well. There would be pool access indoors.

I would advise looking into rentals in the Worthington School District. Most of these rentals are new condos or apartment buildings or homes. They are located, mostly, in the city of Columbus in Worthington schools. The ones in NE Columbus are located very close to the popular Polaris Fashion Place.

Worthington and New Albany both have swim teams and pools on the school's campuses. Thomas Worthington had a great swim team when I lived in Worthington a few years back. Also, Worthington Schools/Columbus City Limits NE areas (whew!) are located very close to Westerville. Many work at the Polaris area of Westerville and live or have children in Worthington schools.

The neighborhoods I am thinking of are N. High St, just north or south of I270 (many highend rentals.) Anything near the Crosswoods Development (near the previous recommendation.)

The neighborhoods would be off of Sancus Blvd, Lazelle Rd, Park Rd., and the Polaris Fashion Place.
Here is a GOOGLE LINK to the area: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...-8&sa=N&tab=wl This would a perfect place for a Columbus newcomer to stay, get use to the city, be in a suburban school, highway access to OSU or downtown on 71, 315, and 270 to other Columbus 'burbs and Easton, a large metro park (Sharon Woods) and right next to Polaris Fashion Place.

Also, Worthington city limits may have some homes for rent. Worthington City Limits begin SOUTH of 1270 and High St.
