Default Looking for good neighborhood and great elementary schools near Columbus

I'm getting a new job in Columbus near East Broad Street (16).. I've never been to Ohio (only in Google Earth!!).. I need some info. about elementary schools near Columbus and safe neighborhoods (my job is east of Columbus and the suburbs would be ok if the commute is short.. 20-30 minutes.. but if i can find a great school in Columbus it will be great)... I will be very thankful for your advice!!!

You may want to check out the Westerville, Worthington and Gahanna areas. Generally, they have decent schools and are very decent places to live. All will place you within a half hour drive or less to the east side of Broad St.

A little closer in to the central city:

Your choices inside Columbus, or closer to the central city, would be:

BEXLEY is a great suburb and has great schools.

One of the most well off east side Columbus neighborhoods is Berwick Berwick is a Columbus neighborhood that is very nice and has many renovated homes on decent sized lots. Berwick Elementary is a Columbus City School and is ranked well. It is one of the best Columbus Elementary Schools and known for being the best one on the East Side. Berwick, also, is near great Catholic schools.

Also, Columbus does have some very good schools. However, most are not on the east side. But the district has open enrollment policy.

Indianola K-8 is located in the Short North, not too far from Berwick or other east side neighborhoods. The school is a citywide magnet school. A student can get into the school through a lottery system. My understanding is that most applicants get into the school.

Indianola K-8 has a great comprehensive academic program and full arts staff (including orchestra, choir, fine arts.)

Winterset Elementary, Cranbrook Elementary, and Clinton Elementary are local neighborhood schools that are all ranked excellent. They are on the NW or Central N side of Columbus. Any of these neighborhoods (known as Clintonville, Olentangy River Rd. area, or Bethel Rd area would be great places to raise a family.)
Even though they are not citywide magnets; your child can get bus transportation to the school if they are allowed to enroll (due to openings after the local neighborhood students have their slot.)

Thanks for the info. I am doing my research on houses and schools now that I have some direction on where to look.

Default Good schools near Broad Street in Columbus

Gahanna is a great area near Broad. Highpoint elementary has always been rated excellent in years past.

You may also consider Pickerington which is a short commute (10 minutes) to Broad Street and has excellent rated schools as well.

You can view details at the Ohio Dept. of Education website. See the section on school report cards. Also, feel free to visit my websites neighborhood section to learn about different areas. You can search the entire mls.
