Hilliard subdivisions? Which are good?
We are looking at buying a home in the Hilliard area. I was wondering which subdivisons are recommended. We are looking in the 175K-230K price range. We looked at a few in Westbrooke which seemed ok. Is that a good subdivision? Which subdivisions are recommended and which should I stay away from? Would anyone recommend any other subdivisions outside of Hilliard in this price range? We are looking somewhere very safe, quiet, and family friendly.

If you have $230k to spend, there are much nicer areas of the city to look for a home.

There are quite a few homes in Hilliard CSD in that price range. A lot of it will come down to personal preference.
For starters...
Westbrooke is fine and Darby Creek ES is right there in the neighborhood. I personally prefer Brookfield Village (nearby in the city limits of Hilliard) to Westbrooke. Prices in BV start at about $195K. Scioto Darby ES is the elementary school for Brookfield Village. You could also check out The Glen, which is off of Dublin Rd and in Columbus city limits, with Hilliard schools. Ridgewood ES is the elementary school for that neighborhood. All three elementary schools are excellent.
One thing with Westbrooke... It is inside city limits of Columbus and there are actually a few homes in that subdivision that are actually in Columbus Public, so if it is Hilliard schools you're looking for, you will need to confirm.

I like the River Park area, just north of Davidson Rd and west of Dublin Rd. Also, I'd take a look at homes in the Riverside Forest development, south of Hayden Run Rd and west of Dublin Rd.

River Park is nice, but will most likely put you over $230K, at least from the properties that are on the market now. Riverside Forest is more likely to be within your specified range (but still over $200K). Also, every now and then, something in River Landings might show up for $230K, but will most likely be in the upper $200s.

I was looking at the recent spread between asking and selling price, it seemed that River Park might be at the upper end of the range. The market has been getting a little soft in the area, so I thought it would be worth a look.
By the way, I found a very detailed site that may be of interest to anyone concerned about schools, pretty favorable comments concerning Hilliard:

HuskerDu---Such as? Ideally we would love to be in an unplanned neighborhood closer to the city, but at the same time we don't want to be surrounded by crime like Bexley and German Village are. Upper Arlington is great, but out of our reach right now. We appreciate any and all suggestions.

Ah, that helps a bit.
If you don't like the planned neighborhoods but want to still be close in, the ideal place for you may be the Hillard area south of Renner Rd, and west of Hillard Rome Rd. A few homes are for sale in that area, in your price range, and the area has less of a subdivision look and feel. The lots tend to be quite large for the vicinity, and they are frequently wooded.

Grandview might be exactly what you are looking for. Search the forum and you find countless mentions of praise for this neighborhood. Clintonville, near the Whetstone Park Of Roses, is very nice also.
