Mansfield relocation question
I saw an ad for a house for sale in Mansfield- 479 mulberry st. I would love to know what anyone thinks about this house or neighborhood. I live out of state and am wondering if its worth my time to even look at it.

At one point I was thinking of moving to Mansfield, also. I looked on REALTOR.com and found several homes that sounded too good to be true - - - - and they were. If it sounds like a great bargain - beware - it is probably in a less than desirable neighborhood.

Country life
If you want a small country town to live in with nothing exciting, then Mansfield would be the place to go. There is Nothing out there to do, very Boring!

seriously, do not move to Mansfield. There is no good reason to do so. If you're moving there for a job, get another job.

Countrygirl107, I am wondering where you currently live. Are you already in
Ohio? Because your question is vague, gives the feeling you live out of the
area.
Mansfield, has a number of run-down neighborhoods, but also offers areas of
beautiful homes. I do not live in Mansfield ( Richland County) but shop the mall that is there. An area known as Lexington ( bedroom community ) might
be more to your liking.
I live in Morrow County. Moved here to get out of big city Columbus. This is
a rural area, with 4 small towns, Marengo, Cardington ( my town) Mt. Gilead,
and Chesterville. We came here, for the quiet beauty of rural life. We have 5
beautiful wooded acres, but when we want the amenities of the city, we are
a reasonable drive ( 40 min.) to Columbus the state capitol and lots to do. For
Wal-Mart, Menards, family doc and dentist, movies we run to Marion, 23 mi.
in neighboring Marion Co.
Mansfield offers shopping, restaurants, movie houses, but just too ffar north
of anything worth doing. Consider Morrow Co. then your only about 23 mi. to
Mansfield. Oh, amd Morrow Co. still has some bargains. I do investment make-overs and I don't have big bucks.

You really dont want to move to Mulberry St. Really, there's only a few good sections of Mansfield I'd recommend moving to. One is called "Woodland" and the street names are all named after, you guessed it, trees. But the houses there can be very expensive.
The only other place I can think of would be in Ontario. It's where all the major shopping and attractions are, and you can get a very nice house for a reasonable price.

I don't know what you are talking about. Downtown Mansfield has art galleries, restaurants, bars/clubs, shops, the carrousel, two theaters, central park and north lake park (which has just been fixed up), and other parks. Most of the chain stores are in Ontario, which is also where the Mall is.We also have the bike trail, which goes from Mansfield all the way to Butler. Snow Trails (a ski resort), Mohican State Park (about 30-45 minutes away form Mansfield), and many golf courses. If that doesn't satisfy you, you can always got to Cleveland to see the Browns, the Indians, or the Caves play. Cleveland also has many other things to do.
Counrtygirl07:
The Mulberry St. Neighborhood, isn't the nicest, but if you want to take a chance go ahead. I suggest you try to find a home in the Woodland area, Lexington, Ontario, Madison TWP, or the southern portion of Mansfield. Also, if you want to take a risk and help a deteriorating neighborhood come back to life, move to the Chamber District. For more information you can go to:

For more information on Mansfield you can go to:
Historic Carrousel District - Shops, Restaurants, Businesses, Real Estate - Downtown Mansfield Ohio
The News Journal - www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com - Mansfield, OH
Mansfield & Richland County - Convention & Visitors Bureau
I hope that helped.

Mansfield is not a good place to live or work. I know from experience that this town has major issues that probably will not be fixed in the near future. Mansfield can be defined with one simple word: unemployed. Mansfield was once a booming market place that had major industry for the area. Those days are long gone and the town is currently a dump. Mansfield, like every other industrial based city, is going through economical and financial struggles. The population even proves it. 50,000 people call the "city" of Mansfield home, which is about the size of a neighborhood in a city like Columbus. Please, do not move to Mansifeld because you will be greatly dissappointed.

When was the last time you were in Mansfield? Sure, we aren't the manufacturing and commercial hub that we once were, but it isn't as bad as you make it sound. Manufacturing jobs aren't what they once were, but there has been some new industries that have moved here. If you are in the medical field, you will most likely find a job. Same with lawyers and other professionals. The only time it is hard for someone to find a job is when they don't have further education. I am sorry that you had a bad experience but not everyone will have the same experience that you had.

Mansfield isn't in great shape, but I don't see it as any more or less depressed than any other small city in Ohio. Newark, Springfield, Middletown, Lima, they're all like that. I work in Marion and Mansfield's better than Marion.
