Question Powell Ohio?

I'm a first time home buyer looking at a home in Powell and trying to find some information that I was hoping someone could help me with. I found the home near the riverbend area that I can afford, but a good portion of that will be related to Taxes. The dreaded T word!

I know how much the house had in taxes in the last year due to the county auditor but for the life of me I can't think of where to look for finding things like School taxes etc. I know its the Olengangy school district though.

Aside from the mortgage itself, and the normal property and school tax, are there any other taxes involved in owning a home?

We live near Alum Creek state park. Not considered Powell. Still considered Delaware. We also have Olentangy School district.
Yes, taxes are high. Higher in Powell. Orange TWP on a whole is a bit higher. But, we do have one of the better school districts around. And yes we pay for it. The Alum Creek, Lewis Center area has many nice homes.
Good luck with your search. We moved here from PA 10 years ago. But decided not to long ago that winter was not for us. Planning on moving to FL once our homes sales.

You are in a great school districts. I am actually a first year teacher in another suburb of Columbus. I wanted to teach in Olentangy and I actually had great contacts, but I still did not get a job in the district. Everbody in their brother wants to get into Olentangy schools to teach because their schools are knew, teachers are given all up to date technology, etc. A principal probably gets about a two foot stack of resumes every year (not even kidding). Your taxes may be higher but your children will receive a phenominal education.

Botanicus, For a detail tax breakdown, check out the delaware county auditor web site. Click on the Tax Estimator link.

Taxes are on the rise due to some issues passed this year. Seems like Riverbend is a very high end area. Welcome to powell

In addition to property taxes (which include school taxes), there could be a special assessment. This is probably unlikely in your area, but in our neighborhood (Clintonville) there was a special assessment for street lights. I think any proposed or pending assessments have to be disclosed, but a streetlight or sewer assessment could be a nasty surprise if your budget is tight. And generally special assessments are not tax deductible.

You could check the auditor's site to find the taxes and if there is a special assessment. The tax bill for 2008 should be available now. Sftong was kind enough to post the link!
