Is Columbus Ghetto (Cleveland, Lorain, Elyria: work, new home, crime)

Wow, I haven't checked this thread since I got home. I was in Columbus for the holidays and drove back home New Year's Eve. After having a couple weeks to reflect on it I say Columbus is a gem. For anyone looking at this thread to decide whether or not to move there - go experience it for yourself. I found all the positives noted in this thread to be exactly as stated or possibly even better. I think the good FAR outweighs the bad.

columbus is hood bc its in ohio (see cleveland, cincinnati, dayton, akron, youngstown, canton, hamilton) but its more like a bigger toledo. there are def. poor areas but the city isn't straight out of grand theft auto. near downtown on any side has bad areas but its not killing the city. near east and the southside are BAD and ppl shouldn't have to live there and near west and short north is too but its a much diff ballgame in the aformentioned, esp nati, cleveland, dayton and youngstown

Columbus is ghetto, I have lived in columbus all my life so i should know.

If you live in columbus you should know the mayor doesnt count many parts of the city in crime stats like the northside(linden, short north) or he will add places like new albany to make columbus look safer.

I have been able to talk to the gang unit in columbus they have told me that columbus has more then 1000 gangs.They also told me that it takes atleast 3 people to make a gang in the state of ohio but all 3 have to commit a felony before there really is a gang.The baddest gang in columbus is the 22st duce duce posse but before that was the linden ave(in linden) crip posse which had over 25 members back in the 90s.The leader was normen "hellbound" jones who murdered atleast 2 people, sold drugs, and robbed people right now he is in the state pen serving 81 years.If you have ever saw "LOCKED DOWN" on the history channel they talk about the baddedst jails in the USA.
I have seen Mr. Jones on the show only once but they were telling me how he runs things for the black members in one of Ohio's state pens.When they caught Mr. Jones they didnt talk about it on the news because they didnt want anybody like adults or kids to know about the gang problems in columbus.When they convicted Normen Jones they also convicted 17 other members of the gang on things like murders, drugs, etc.Now adays the gang is still around but nobody really talks about them expect crackdealers or crackheads.

Most areas like uzi alley have been torned down also houses in the short north, linden, hilltop and etc.Winstor terrace was torned down a couple of years back but the city of columbus has put up sec.8 housing so area doesnt look as bad as it used too.

I have been to places like st. clair and E.99 in east cleveland, st louis, and kansas city, MO, so I know what a ghetto looks like.

I thought ghetto only ment there was alot of people of the same race in the same area i dont rember

New here so just read this thread. I was born and raised in Toledo Ohio and I never, ever felt unsafe anywhere that I went and I lived in several neighborhoods there from suburbs to the old west end where I grew up and just recently moved from. Granted, it's not the greatest city in america, but It's no where near the worst. My Mom raised all her kids there and most of my family still lives there, I love Toledo, wouldnt trade it for the world. As far as the job market goes, not the best, which is why I have now moved to Columbus, I dont know Columbus too well to comment on rather or not it's "ghetto" thus far it's just like any other big city to me, but I have a lot to learn and see. I will miss Toledo.

.....Are you serious with that? 1000 gangs? I dont even think there is 1000 gangs in the whole state of Ohio, especially Columbus. I hate how people try to make out cities to be worse than they are. For what reason? I can never understand it. I have been in Columbus many times and been to some of the worst neighborhoods and I never even saw a hint that there was gangs there. There was some graffiti, but hardly any gang graffiti.

You say it takes three members...Are you joking? They have gangs in Cleveland that have a few hundred members. A few years ago they said that Cleveland had the 5th heaviest gang presence of any city, and Columbus is nowhere near as bad as that. I also saw that you pointed out E99th and St. Clair, which is the street that Bone Thugs are from... Yes thats bad, but that is nothing compared to the worst looking areas of Cleveland. Thats actually one of the nicer looking bad areas in Cleveland.

Yea, I know 1000 sounds kinda crazy but im just saying what I heard.....

If you knew how the youth acts now adays its kinda makes sence now im not sayin each gang does drive bys and that kinda stuff but alot of members try to sell drugs, break into cars or minor stuff just to get "street cred" for the gang.I havent heard anything about a gang problem in cleveland and i dont think there is unless you count drug gangs.I heard that about half of cleveland's muders are drug related and it makes sence because if you talk to people in cleveland they only talk about gettin money not blood, crip or MS-13 like in columbus.When i got the chance to talk to the gang unit they told me for the state of ohio it only takes 3 people to make a gang but most gangs in columbus have atleast 15-30 members some gangs have over 100 members.
