What neighborhood in Columbus is best for me?
Well before any of you give an answer let me give a little background. I will be moving from Cleveland to Columbus for work. I am a single 24 yr old male who likes to go out drinking and have a good time. I have been reading the Columbus forum for a little bit now and would like some info on the following neighborhoods: Short North, Brewery District, German Village, Olde Town East, and Victorian Village.
I've driven through the Short North before on US 23 and it looks alright although it seemed maybe a little expensive (at least the restuarants/bars looked upscale). Olde Town East and the Victorian Village just by their names seem like places for older couples, however I have never been to either one so I am not sure by any means. Also with a name like the Brewery District there's got to be at least a microbrewery and lots of bars, right?? Also what is the German Village all about??? (like German people or what). Also when you talk about a village could you please say where I would find it on a map...becuase I honestly have no idea where any fo these places are at besides the Short North. THANK YOU so Much!!
Also if any of you have lived in both Cleveland and Columbus are any of the above mentioned neighborhoods like Coventry or downtown Willoughby? thanks-

Victorian Village is just the neighborhood where people live on the west side of High Street within the Short North down towards Neil Avenue. To be honest, it is all pretty much the same neighborhood when you live there and get to know the area. Grad students and young professionals are everywhere. No need to worry about an old crowd... that is what German Village is all about. Brewery District is kind of an extension of GV and is a bit dead and considered outdated by most drinkin folks of your age group.

Grandview is a short taxi ride away.......however, Arena District is THE BEST place for a person your age...there is bar after bar & the nightlife is great there. I know Arena Crossing Apartments are right across the street from all the action, but they are a bit pricey I belive. I'm 25 years old & that's where everyone I know goes out on weekends, including myself.

Yeah the arena district is the area that surrounds Nationwide Arena, which is where the jackets play. The arena crossing apartments are really nice but kind of expensive around $900 dollars for a one bedroom.

German Village is expensive to live in, and it's often referred to as "Gerbil Village."
The Schmidt's Restaurant on Kossuth is pretty cool though, if you are searching for a real German restaurant.

I have lived in Victorian Village, and there is a little bit of everybody there. Young professionals, college grad students, and families. Victorian Village is going to be a bit more expensive than a suburb would be because it is within walking distance to the short north and arena district, but it is well worth it when you don't have to drive around and find parking for an event or a night out at the bars. Plus it is right on the bus line to downtown and OSU. I highly recommend it, especially for a young 24 year old looking for nightlife in Columbus.

I'd say if you stay around the arena district, short north area you'd be close to all the action. the short north is just north of downtown on high street. and monthly the area has their "Gallery Hop". But as some may have read, it's turning into more of a social gathering than arts fest. But hey, there's bars everywhere.

i live in german village and love it! i'm 25 and have been here almost 2 years. i like to go out, but i'm not into the college scene at all. the people in the GV area are really laid back and there are some really cool bars with great beer.
short north is more artsy and expensive, from what i've noticed, but a lot of college grads find good deals and move into that area.
vic village is nice. that would be my second choice on a good place to live. it's close to high st. and all the downtown shops, but has a lot of character.
olde town east is off the path a bit... you'd have to drive to get to most places.
i work in the arena district and it's either hopping or totally dead, depending on what's going on at the arena. there's not much to choose from, except for commercial bars, but it's close (within walking distance) to the short north... just more expensive.
check out metro-rentals.com and craigslist for good apartments.
