The World Harvest Church is extremely dominant in Cowtown. I believe it was founded in the area and alot of people on the east and southeast side are real "believers". You wouldn't have to throw a stone very far to find people in Franklin County who are members of that church.

I bet most of the members at that church don't realize that Rod Parsley is a giant crook. I would want my communion donations to go to the church and community, not to building his house and buying his luxury cars.

Amen to you If anyone thinks Columbus is Mayberry then MOVE. We lived in the surrounding area for 10 years and loved it. No we are not "Cowpokes" as they would like to believe. But the Midwest holds a great bunch of people. We are now living in FL. Love it too. But the Midwest folks are great people. Don't bash it. And please, don't analyze why moved to Fl from OH. It wasn't because we hated the Columbus area. We are so sick and tired of negativeness of who "America" is truly!

THe world harvest may be a big church but I know no one that I associate with that attends there. It speaks volumes that Columbus is a large city. You can have a all kinds of people living in one metro. People who attend church regularly, those who attend gay bars regularly, those in live bands, bankers, students, etc etc...
Many large cities are host to several large well-known churches. That doesn't mean that all 1.7 million people attend that church. Try a few thousand.

But do you think anyone ever sees themselves at "simpleton, overbearing, christian types"? Everyone thinks of themselves as level "forward thinking, open minding individuals", even Rush. It's impossible to observer yourself.
I'd tell you to get a different viewpoint by seeing a different culture, but I can't. They are gone. You can see where they were. Go look up the Columbus Buddhist Temple. They no longer meet there. But you can see where they used to meet. It's the place with the broken windows and "Christ is the Answer" spray painted in red paint all over it.
(I think you can still see where the Christian Scientists meet. They picket the place regularly and taunt people going in)

Eh, I would agree that it is difficult to observe and classify yourself, however I believe that by looking at other individuals, their lifestyles and choices, schools of thought that came before you, it is possible to gauge where you "fit" in. Otherwise, what is the point of political parties, religions, clubs, ect. It is in our nature to associate ourselves in this way.
There are most certainly individuals that consider themselves to be simple minded, ultra conservative, and overbearing. I ran into a few of those types last weekend in Brooklyn, they were sure excited about telling me how I was wrong and they were right. But good for them, I can think about what they said, and reject it. I am not going to BS you, I find myself riding the fence from time to time, but I guess I like to think that I take the time to consider all points of view.
Furthermore, people do need to get a different viewpoint, it isn't that hard. As I said previously, Columbus isn't a utopia, I like living here, but I love to leave too. Not every culture, religion, ect is represented here. People need to buy some plane tix, get in the car, and travel. Spend some time overseas, immerse yourself in a different culture, and get out of your comfort zone. Maybe people will come back appreciating another way of life but cherishing what they have here, maybe they will bring some of those experiences back to enrich the lives of those around them, or perhaps they will realize that they need to move. But that is the great part about it, all you need to do is change your surroundings whether it be temporary, or permanent.
