Columbus Real Estate Search - MLS??
I am considering a relocation to Columbus and wondering if there is a way of searching the mls without a realtor? I thought if I could get a better idea of the neighborhoods I would be able to best guide a realtor as to what I am searching for.
Anyone with any good ideas let me know, I am very interested in learning about the positive things that Columbus has to offer. I am an artist / photographer and looking for information on the art community and attitudes for the area as well.

Realtor.com allows you to search the MLS without being a realtor. In addition, the HER, KingThompson and REMAX real estate sites allow for local searches.
Our own site allows you to search many of the local cities, and specific zip codes, for a lot of information.

We utilized the services of an extremely helpful buyers agent and recommend it highly.

FYI - if you use a buyers agent, then you have to pay 3% of the sales price. My seller told me that if I brought a realtor into the picture, the the price increases. The buyer is paying for the realtors, even though the money comes from the seller. The seller will increase the price. It's not difficult to purchase a house on your own. In fact, this is my first house and it didn't take a scientist to figure out what i needed to do.

The listing agent has to split their fee with the buyers agent so that's why the listing party does NOT want you to have a buyers agent. The seller is the only one that pays this commission.
"My seller told me"
This is why I recommend a buyers agent.

I got the house at 7k below the bank appraised price. In the past, he had someone bring a realtor into the picture and had to increase the price to cover the buyer's agent commission. Sure, THE SELLER PAYS COMMISSION but who is bringing money to the table? The buyer. I got the house that was completely rehabbed for much cheaper than those in the area. It was a win win for all of us. The seller did not have a listing agent.
And to cover my legal ground, I had an attorney with me throughout the process. Realtors IMO, are overrated used car salesmen.

Wow, you can say this with such conviction without even knowing:
- sale price
- comparables
- list price
- condition of house
- size
Must be a realtor

If someone brings me a dead cow and sells it to me as a motorcycle I need not be a cowbow to know it's not a fish.
