I am going to have to apply for disabled housing [have looked up places already] and I am poor, will be living on disability check. I have my brother in this area, so am thinking about moving near him. He has two school aged children and is divorced. He is the relative who is going to help me move with his friends. He does have some health problems but is not disabled. I am very sick, so keep this in mind, I have congestive heart failure, thyroid hormonal disorders and other problems.
In Michigan I am housebound 80% of the year if not more. At least Columbus will be somewhat warmer in winter...
But I am not sure if I can handle a big city or not. I like small town life, {I lived in Hillsdale MI happily for almost 9 years but it died:doctors fleeing, church closed, friends telling me it is a ghosttown} but I do not know where to go

I am going to be newly divorced and trying to apply for disabled housing even all over the state of Michigan..{small towns in Southern part} I live in St. Joe/Benton Harbor now. I was told by social workers here and at regional disability center that when I divorce, I need to leave here, because there are no social services here. I am sick enough to get a visiting at home doctor, and there are serious medical issues I am facing. Even weather affects my moving, winter too cold for me to be out in car even, and summer weather.
I dont want to be a burden on relative, but social worker told me it would be far better to go where a relative is, then not but what is Pickerington/Reynoldsburg Ohio LIKE? Will I feel run over by the traffic? Are the people friendly? Are there any old downtown areas? What is the social services system there like?
I lived in Chicago-Rogers Park before and HATED IT...so keep that in mind for answering my post.
I have to make decision based on thesethings and needs.
1. safe disabled apt.
2.low crime area. {I hate ghettos and fear ending up in one, because of nightmares I had in Chicago}
3. good transportation system, I can drive a little but not sure I can keep car going, that I have now.Brother told me Fairfield County does have transporation system for disabled.
4. decent social services {unlike where I live now}
5. programs for disabled, betterment, counseling, if I was able to recover somehealth. want to make more of own money and probably would pursue more money-making online--I supplement income now online--very little pin money.
6. good bible believing church, a Weight Watchers club and other groups.
7. decent enough hospital.
8., good library.
9. People who are friendly to disabled and wouldnt be abusive to disabled fat woman.
Living by brother is a definite PERK, I am worried about being in some town alone even a small one in Michigan. I want to be as indpendent as possible but brother would help me on rare occasions I would need it.
