I heard Short North can get noisy with all of the bars etc. We are in our mid 30's and thus are past the bar scene!

I live in the northern part of the Short North. The above statement is half true half false.
The Short North is technically just the main commercial strip that is next to two neighborhoods. The Short North commercial strip is a mature strip with many restaurants, art galleries, and some bars. The strip is not very noisy but is a bustling strip compared to many other areas of Columbus.
However, the neighborhoods next to the Short North are very quiet. Victorian Village and Italian Village are both next to the short north and just north of downtown yet when just two blocks from the main street, High St., you can feel as though are you literally in a victorian town or separate village.
I highly recommend at least visiting the Italian and Victorian Village and checking it out. As long as you are two blocks from the main st. you will have very no bar noise of any kind. The Victorian Village is decently big and extends many blocks west of High St, the Short North. Both areas have decent number of rentals, with Italian having some more upscale rentals.
If you're looking for something even more family friendly
Clintonville has good Columbus schools and yet it is a historic area with a retail strip and many past the bar crowd but wanting a more urbanized feel.
A quiet area near the southern portion of downtown with a large number of upscale rentals is the
Brewery District just west of German Village.
