Ya I would say only if you are a urban minded pioneer type. The area has some decent, yet still very mixed income enclaves. The Old Oaks neighborhood (east of the hospital) is one subset neighborhood with historical homes.
However, the few I know in the area east of Children's Hospital do not have kids and if they do they attend private schools or are bused to a better school in Columbus. Of the few I know over there only one couple has kids. The others are younger couples or singles looking for a good priced home to renovate.
I would suggest looking into Merion Village (south of German Village) if you want something in a better area but must be near the hospital. Merion may be a little more expensive but good deals can be found.
The whole SE side (area east or south of Children's) is very complex and very hit or miss. Some streets and sub neighborhoods are alright while others are boarded up or have a lot of lower income residents and crime problems. Describing the near SE side is near impossible over the internet. To those not from Columbus I am only speaking of the SE side near downtown. Not the far SE side or SE side outside of the "central city."
