Columbus by far has the nicest people.
I found New York and Chicago friendlier

I have found it to be fairly unfriendly. People may greet you here, but they have little to no interest in getting to know you.
I have had the exact opposite experience. I have met so many wonderful people and made some real, true friends more quickly than I ever expected. Most everyone is very welcoming. There are bitter folks everywhere.

Most folks EXPECT the South to be friendly, and it used to be that way. I often hear folks now descibe folks from the South as rude. Truth be told, most people that live there now are not natives and the hospitality and culture have become so watered - down (trying to think of a nice way to say it ).

I love the area and the people here are genuinely very nice IMO and from have I have experienced.

Default Friendliness in Columbus

I live just outside of Columbus but when we moved here we were on the Northeast side. I found the friendliness to be a big change from New Jersey. I don't agree that Charleston and Alexandria are friendlier.

Upper Arlington is not known for friendliness, they can be quite snobby.
Why not go out and introduce yourself to the neighbors? There's always a question to ask. I personally find that neighbors bring cookies or casseroles to your front door to be quite intrusive.

I moved into a new house two months ago in UA. Exactly one neighbor introduced himself and welcomed me to the neighborhood. One.

There are definetly some areas of Columbus where people are rude and snobby (completely agree about upper arlington) but I've always loved Clintonville, short north, victorian/italian village, and german village. Also to the OP, next time you're in town hit up the North Market for lunch!

Almost visited last weekend, but couldn't get away at the last minute. Will keep the North Market in mind. Thanks.
