For those that don't appreciate what you have in Columbus
Okay, as I posted in another thread here we wanted to go somewhere for the weekend that was somewhat close to St. Louis. We go to Kansas City quite often, and have been to Chicago, Memphis and other cities within a six hour drive so we wanted something different. We saw Columbus on Man vs. Food a few months back, and, I love food but can't eat like I can get away with on vacation. We've been on the highway through Columbus many times but never stopped. Anyway, we love to drive and decided we would give it a try. We didn't know what we'd do for the one full day that we'd have there, but we knew we were going up to Waldo that day for a fried bologna sandwich at G & R Tavern.
We got into Columbus Friday and it was raining so hard we couldn't see the 18 wheeler just two car lengths in front of us on Hwy. 70. Fortunately the traffic was only going about 5 mph, and my gps told me where to get off. The tornado sirens were going off when we arrived at our hotel, the Westin on High Street. We checked in and drove to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in the German Village. Pouring rain and they still had a half hour wait. Okay folks, the reason for this post. Everyone we met or even saw, were the friendliest people we've ever met. I know it's hard to generalize, but usually, someone, a waiter, desk clerk, someone will be rude somewhere. Not in Columbus (or Waldo or Upper Sandusky, anywhere we went).
By the way, we had so much fun, we ate at Schmidt's both nights, had over an hour wait the second night, and the receptionist even remembered our name (her name is Belinda). Also ate at G & R Tavern twice, once early on Saturday, and then again on our way from spending most the morning and afternoon seeing sights around Upper Sandusky. Drove back Hwy. 23 the entire way and couldn't believe it turned into High Street. What fantastic areas it took us through. We have to make a much longer trip next time because you have way too many cool things to do. Oh, and Saturday the weather was so nice we walked from our hotel all the way to The Thurman Cafe, which had the friendliest people waiting the 1 1/2 hours they said it would take (we decided if we were going to wait we wanted Schmidt's again) so we walked back to eat and back to the hotel. The only disappointment was Katzinger's Deli this morning. Great place, but we have been spoiled by our many visits to Shapiros Deli in Indianapolis, we ate there on the way to Columbus, and would've stopped on the way back if we didn't go to Katzinger's. Katzinger's is no different than the so so deli's we have here.
Don't get me wrong, St. Louis is just as friendly Columbus, and you folks should visit us, but Columbus was a great getaway.

Nice pics, like you I always found the folks in Columbus to be rather friendly too.
I currently live in the Sacramento, Cal area. The folks out here are generally much more self contained than what I experienced in Columbus. I really miss that aspect of Ohio.

Glad you liked Columbus and Central Ohio.
St Louis is one of my favorite towns to visit.

Glad you liked Columbus.
I have found it to be fairly unfriendly. People may greet you here, but they have little to no interest in getting to know you.

Glad to hear you enjoyed our fine town. I love C-bus. Don't think I'd enjoy a bigger city or living out in the middle of nowhere.
Love Schmidt's and G & R Tavern. My hubby loves their Bolgona sammies. We make a Saturday out of going up there and just driving around or antiquing.[SIZE=2]

only been to St. Louis once, but loved what we got to see.

They were nice long enough to take their money.

Just curious where you find people to be friendlier? I have lived in Chicagoland, Atlanta, South Florida, New York, and Columbus.
Columbus by far has the nicest people.

How could I ask for anything more.
I would've really been mad if they took my money and didn't give me the service that goes along with it. They surpassed even my highest of expectations. That's customer service.

Virginia (Alexandria), North Carolina (Charlotte), and South Carolina (Charleston) all have much friendlier people than Columbus in my experience.
I moved into a new house two months ago in UA. Exactly one neighbor introduced himself and welcomed me to the neighborhood. One.
