Gahanna
As an addendum to my other thread, can someone give me a little info on Gahanna in general?
What's the community like?
Anyone live there that can tell me about the school district?
Has there been any changes to the area with the development of New Albany?
Thanks!

I have not lived in Gahanna but I have done probally 50 roofs there this year and its a great place. I would love to move to Gahanna. The school is right up the road from a McDonalds and when I am in there buying lunch for my crew theres usually a bunch of kids come from that school in there to eat and they are all very polite.
Oh yeah the police dept. is like 2 blocks from the school but I have never seen or heard about anything bad happening in Gahanna.
On the bad side they seem to get a lot of hail storms. Usually when bad weather moves through Ohio Gahanna gets hit hard.

Hi zmcbee,
As a Realtor I allow everyone to make the complex judgments about schools for themselves as I must -- but have you checked out Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools and Gahanna Schools for instance?
There -is- a good deal of construction and such radiating around the corner of Hamilton and Morse Roads where many shops and businesses are concentrated, and down to the airport area...roads will need to be widened to allow for the greater volume of traffic around there that has been fed by New Albany development. One thing that's growing in that nearby part of New Albany is the trend toward ranch condos, which catch the interest mainly of seniors.
Gahanna has remained a popular place to live, and not as affected as some areas have been with the the influx of new building over the past few years.
I'm sure you'll hear from some others who enjoy Gahanna. Where are you moving from?

Gahanna is a good middle-class area. Problem in Gahanna is the speed limit is too damn low if you plan on getting anywhere.

Moving to Columbus Ohio - Looking for Good Schools and Diversity
We will be relocating to Columbus in June 2008. We are looking for a diverse community with good elementary/middle schools. Also would like extra curricular activity opportunities for a 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl. Gahanna has caught my eye. Are there any other good locations that I a may be overlooking?
Thanks.

Has there been any changes to the area with the development of New Albany?
I had to chuckle when I read your last question. I have lived on the NE side of Columbus for 10 years. Five years ago I began looking for an apartment complex different from the one I then lived in. Almost by accident, I happened upon the Stoneridge Plaza - a nice-looking mall in the middle of "rural" Columbus. Two years later, I moved to that location. At the time, the only stores in the area other than those at the mall were two gas stations, a Monroe Brake Station, O'Charley's and Panera Bread restaurants, a Home Depot, and a Meijer's superstore. Also there was a condo community. At the far end of N.Hamilton were another condo community, a rest home, and one apartment complex, with a couple of small business running out of their homes. That was it.
Today, it would be literally impossible to list the commercial establishments - the whole area is built up with every conceivable business, homes, condo communities (by the dozen), and apartment complexes. Welcome to Gahanna! Yet, the town itself has kept its small-town feeling, and this whole area is a wonderful place to live! Its growth has more to do with the growth of Columbus in general, than with just the changes in New Albany, I believe.

Thanks for all the replies. We are looking at moving to Columbus, and Gahanna is one of the areas we are interested in.
We are interested in a "patio house"--my wife told me this is the correct word, even though I am unsure of its meaning. Any leads, recommendations, info on a realtor, please PM me. Thank you.

When I moved to Columbus 3 years ago we lived in Gahanna and after a year moved to New Albany. Gahanna is a great place to live. I've heard the schools are good too. Gahanna people generally seem to be a bit more relaxed (less snobby) then New Albany people. There are tons of fun families. The MOMS club is also great! As far as I can tell the development of New Albany hasn't really affected Gahanna all that much.

I lived on the edge of Gahanna for about 30, in a place called Wonderland that was bought out by the city. Now for 16 yrs live in Licking co., s.w.Licking school dist. where one son went to high school, it city-country, we have 8ac. a mile from grocery, p.office,schools. I like it here but miss the closeness of the old home place. But this is close, and it's growing out here, too much if you like the real country..but it's worth looking over, and still afforable homes. good luck.

Patio home refers to basically a detached condo. However in the columbus mls these are listed as condos. Depending on your price range, Gahanna has some but there are other areas that have some more affordable options, if you really prefer a detached condo. I helped my mother in law buy a really nice upscape patio home that is in New Albany area - but it's columbus schools - so that keeps the taxes lower. This area is really on the edge of Gahanna in between new albany. So if schools don't matter to you, then that might be an area to consider. There are plenty of other areas as well that have detached condos. It just all depends on what else you'd like to be close to and your price range.
