Default Moving to Columbus attending Capital in the fall. In need of some direction.

Hello, so I've visited Capital and the Columbus area a few times since being accepted and auditioning for the school. Bexley seems like a nice area to me. Going west out of the school looks better than leaving east though. I've been told by my aunt and uncle that the area is just not safe with lower income living and they've also told me not to live around Long st and watch for areas on Broad(cause I seen a few cute places around there but they crushed my dreams! lol). But I want to live closer to school (I'm living off campus) I'm looking for a one bed room around $500-$600. I also will be working up on Morse rd which is like 15-20 mins from school. Living in between would be fine, but I don't want to be more than 15 mins from school...and I haven't had much luck with finding places to live in between Morse rd and Capital... Anyone know of a good safe area thats in between for a single female to live in?! And whats you opinion on Bexley?

I lived in spanish harlem for almost a year...I just wanna be safer than that! lol

The area Capital is in okay. The near east side is the area that your aunt and uncle are referring to. It has improved in pockets only in the last two decades. In the 80s there were crack heads and gun fights, today it is much better, but it not for the weak at heart.

The area of Columbus right over the Bexley border (going west toward downtown) is worse than the other areas of the near east side. However, not all of There is an area called Olde Town East that is okay and other pockets of the near east side that are very nice but the whole place is not is fully gentrified but some like this mix of diversity and incomes other find it not their cup of tea.

Now going east away from Bexley is actually a decent area. You might have perceived differently based upon the retail strip, but the neighborhoods off the of the main streets of Main and Broad have some nice homes and rentals. The closer to Bexley the better off though.

The area just east of of Bexley is called Eastmoore and might have a rental in your price range. South of Bexley is called Berwick it is nice and has a lot of homes with a few rentals. I have had a lot of friends that went to capital and lived just outside of the bexley limits (east of Bexley) in Eastmoore.

They lived right over the limit in two story buildings with four units per apartment. The street name is Kenwick Dr. Essentially I would recommend living right in Bexley or just west or south of Bexley.

But check out the apartment unit, and generally there can be some run down apartment complexes in Columbus just west or south of Bexley so visit the place before you settle. I would recommend homes, townhomes, or apartment buildings before large complexes in the Columbus areas outside of Bexley. Almost anything within the Bexley city limits is good.

you'd probably like bexley, the short north, or clintonville the most.

btw - i'll be renting out a 3 bedroom house in a few months, located just west of bexley in a nice neighborhood called eastgate. i'm currently remodeling it. it will pretty much be all new inside. if you'd like to see pics or anything, feel free to send me an email.

There are some apartments off of E. Broad street right before I-270. The side street is called Cardinal Park Drive. One of the communities is called the Residences at something (these are brand new) and the other is called Wellington place... I believe both of these would be in your price range and not too far from school or work
