Default Section 8 what does this mean?

Hi Y'All, I've been searching for an apt here in Col. OH and have come upon a number of "Section 8" references. Not being from the area, I'm completely clueless as to what this means.

Is Section 8 something good? Or is it something to be avoided?

Thanks!

"Section 8" is shorthand for Federally Subsidized Public Housing. If you qualify and need it, it's good. If you're looking for an upscale place to live, it's something to be avoided.

If you can afford to pay your own rent, you probably want to avoid the houses/apartments that accept Section 8. If you don't, I think you might be disappointed with your neighbors.
