Lake vacation close to Columbus
Hi, any suggestions of a a lake (I am thinking Michigan?) that I could visit for a three day vacation this summer within a 6 hour drive of Columbus? Does Cleveland have any pretty lakes I could stay on?
Thanks

I go to Lake Cumberland every September to go house boating. Specifically Beavercreek. It's 5 hours away. The water is super clean and clear. Very quiet.
Are you looking to stay at a hotel on a lake? I think there is a hotel by Jamestown and State Dock on Lake Cumberland. State Dock isn't a state run facility, they're just called State Dock. They are both right next to each other. EXTREMELY modern and nice facilities. One of the largest houseboats in the world resides at Jamestown.

If you have a passport, Pelee Island up in Canada is really nice. It's about 20-30 minute drive from Windsor, then take the Ferry over. I'm sure there's hotels/camping on the shore, if an island isn't what you are wanting.
Put-In-Bay is also nice.

Windsor is no more than 4 hrs away. If you don't have passport you don't have a chance crossing. I've been going there regularly for business for over 20 years.
Chautauqua Lake (NY) is about an hour and half east of Erie, PA and worth a visit, beautiful lake.

Wow, back when we used to go there you didn't need any form of ID. Not even a driver's license.

Detroit/Windsor is about 4 hours away. To get to the Pelee Island coast area, it's about an extra 30 min drive away from Windsor. Heck, it might not be that far. but a passport is now required. (Tenzo...I remember the days when no ID was needed to get into Canada!! C'est la vie!)
If you are talking 6 hours from Columbus, Niagara Falls is about that far, too! Lots of cabins and stuff on the NY side (or the Canada side). Driving along Lake Erie and smelling the vineyards...so nice!
Just another idea. Lots of stuff out there. Just got to dive in!

Passports or WHTI identification cards are now mandatory for security reasons. September 11th, 2001 indeed changed everything for us.
