A thread titled Dublin, Hilliard or Powell already discusses the Hilliard area and some of the competing suburbs.

Generally, Hilliard's nicer sections are the west side of the Scioto River (Dublin Rd), north of Fishinger Rd. If you go further west the general advice would be to stay north of Roberts Rd, with the nicer developments on the west side of the road.

Homes should be in the $200-$350K range, with most gravitating towards $230-$250. Generally a great area to raise a family, but the property taxes are pretty steep. Expect to pay about $4,500-$5,000 per year on a $250K home.

aprovost, I believe NewToCA used to live in the Hilliard area. As a current resident, I can tell you that the previous post on this thread is accurate. If you're looking for over $350K, try Heritage Lakes, Brown Township and the area around the Scioto River. If you want under $200K north of Roberts Road, you're probably looking at something that is quite a bit smaller in the portion of town built prior to the building boom that began 25 years ago.

I forgot to mention that the areas east of Hilliard-Rome and north of Roberts, south of Scioto Darby that are inside the City of Columbus, but Hilliard schools are also generally under $200K (Cross Creek, Oak Run, Westwind). Westwind is the nicest of those three.

Default Hilliard

Yes, I moved from Washington DC to Hilliard in 1992, and then to Dublin in 2001. I left Ohio for California (hence my forum name) in August 2006.

I had kids in the Hilliard schools during my first 7 years in Ohio, so I know a bit about the area. I also had a chance to see the area evolve, and see what happened as compared to the plan(s).

Overall, I liked living in Hilliard, and have no problem recommending it. Like most places, some stuff is not what you would like, but for the cost of living it was a very pleasant experience.
