How serious are you guys about skiing? What length boat? Do you run the course, barefoot, ect? For recreational boaters, Alum is OK, along with Delaware, Caesars Creek, and Dillon. There can be tons of tubers, power turners, speed boats, ect. If are looking for a course and a little flatter water, you should look at O'shaughnessys reservoir or Griggs. I know quite a few people who live in Lewis Center and catch a set before work each day. The same goes for people living in Upper Arlington and riding on Griggs. The busy season here runs Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can start in a dry suit as soon as April (got out on St Patty's this year) until the end of October/Early November. Some of the best water is in September.
Not sure how big of a home you are looking for, but I lived in the "Golden Ghetto" for a while. It consists of ranch and cape cod post war housing that would be in your price range. Some of the houses are quite nice, 1200 to 2000 sq ft, finished basements, fenced in backyards, ect. Quite, safe, good schools, close to Griggs Reservoir, and close to OSU. That being said, there would be no way to find anything in Upper Arlington that has the space to compare to your 20 acres.

You can't use any power boats on Hoover over like 5 hp (or something like that) I believe so it is mainly for sail boats.

You don't go to the middle of a cornfield to go boating.
Columbus has many fun and interesting things to do. Boating is not one of them.

Tenzo, do you own a boat that you slalom, barefoot, or wakeboard behind? I'm telling you, there is a ton of boating in Ohio and specifically several prime spots close to the bus. Deep Sea fishing, no. There are plenty of inland lakes and waterways that are perfect for water sports.

Ah, well then you are correct, there isn't a ton of sailing in Columbus. My only sailing experiences have been on the Charles in Boston and out of Chicago right by soldier field. Columbus doesn't quite have anything like that! However, if kismetranch is looking for good locations to take their ski boat out, Columbus should have plenty to offer for the recreational rider to an avid enthusiast.
One of my favorite spots in Ohio to ride actually is in the middle of a corn field. The west end of the Maumee River is flanked on both sides by farm fields. It is home to some of the calmest, glassiest water I have found. It reminds me of the California Delta area, just not as busy. It still cracks me up cruising through acres of corn!

i just signed on to this site. I am transferring to UA in February. Have a family of 4 and a college student. Rent is the only option right now and would like to stay under $1200/month. I drove around a few weeks ago and found a house for rent on LEEDS Ave? I am currently in Kentucky and cant get back often to look around. Who can I go to for RENTAL showings or descriptions being out of town? Any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

If you are looking at living in UA, the affectionately named "Golden Ghetto" would probably be perfect. I rented a 1400 sf ranch with a finished basement for $1000/month from 2004/2006. There is nothing ghetto about the area, it is just that while it is still in the UA school district, the housing pales in comparison to the old money mansions a mile away. You would be close to OSU, it is a safe area, alot of the rental houses have really nice back yards, fancyburg park and Griggs are close, ect. I found our rental by driving around, but I would think Craigslist could be a help. The area north of Zollinger, South of Fishinger, East of Riverside, and West of Tremont is what I am referring to.

Hope you find a nice place!
Good places to move are New Albany, Dublin, Gahanna,(I am surprised no one mentioned it, I wonder why, I like it there)Powell,Canal Winchester is okay but very boring and I've heard Clintonville from people. Grove City is bad, Whitehall is bad, Bexley is half bad ( right down the road from Whitehall, I lived in Whitehall so I know what's on the other side lol, maybe thats why they think it is good because they haven't been to Whitehall?) Pickerington. Those are all good places. My first choice would be Dublin area because everything you need is there. It's close to the zoo and a lot of nice stores. Very nice grocery stores, and shopping there. I love Dublin. I would move there but the rental properties are crappy, not bad just outdated or too many of them together, and the houses, I would imagine, are a little expensive for me,(maybe not for you!) I'm sure it's worth the money to be in those areas. You're from California, you will be very pleased with the cost of living here. You may even get angry seeing what you can have here compared to what you may have had there for the same price! LOL. Good luck to you.
