This thread is funny... I grew up in Columbus and saw all the neighborhoods first-hand. It's obvious to most that Whitehall is not the most desireable place to be; the area is old and has gone into noticeable long-term decay... It's not a slum, but give it a few generations; it already has a seedy feel to it.

To be honest with you, I'm not a fan of whitehall. I live near broad and yearling, and my apartment has roaches (no, not from us, my boyfriend is an OCD neat freak and cleans all the time, and all of our neighbors complain of bug problems. They bomb and the bugs just scatter into other apartments) we have a leaking faucet that noone will fix, I can smell chemicals in the hallway that don't smell like cleaning products, people keep not paying rent and ditching their cats when they leave, so all these poor cats are running around...I don't know, I've tried to give Whitehall a chance, and I'm a pretty upbeat, happy person, and everytime I try to smile or chat with someone while getting groceries or gas, I get the brush off, cold shoulder, I mean, a teen was gunned down just last week, there are crackheads that dig through the trash all the time, my car has been broken into twice and they stole my baby bag and some change, neighbor's cars have also been broken into, and a friend of mine who also lives in the area near main st got mugged. I lived in the city, down in the short north off high and second ave and never had trouble, and I was a single girl at that time. My neighbors were all really friendly, even the homeless people were totally fine, I used to share lunch every thursday afternoon with a sweet old homeless guy that would help me with my groceries, he was never threatening, always very kind. I never saw a cockroach and the building was SUPER old, I feel less safe now living in Whitehall. Honestly, I can't wait to move.

Lol the talk of crackheads reminds me of when I lived at Parklawn. We lived in the big apartment building at the split on Parklawn Blvd, and there were meth labs on BOTH sides of our apartment.

That's EXACTLY what I'm smelling, is methlabs, I'm pretty sure of it. A friend of mine, before he got some help, that's what he was into, and I recognize the smell. A guy that lived next to us was there for like...a month, my landlord left a note on his door about paying rent, and then everything was gone, like he bolted...there's a guy down the way that is always screaming at his wife, or girlfriend or whatever, and the buildings next door are really bad. I'm sorry, it's a dying city in whitehall, it's really hard to find work out this way, and after doing some research after I heard about the kid getting gunned down a few streets away from where we live...and we're on the verge of being in blacklick, and it's still bad living on the fringe. You get further into town and it's even worse...yep. Can't wait to move. Like I said, WAYYYYY bigger fan of the Short North. You get your fair share of crap in any city, but Short North is typically full of younger artists, students, hippies...it's nice. If the schools weren't so incredibly awful, I'd love to live in the city again.

I've been living in the Woodcliff/Midcliff Condos for over 3 years now. I can remember being a kid (around 5 years old) and visiting my aunt and uncle that lived off of Poth Rd. This neighborhood USED to be nice. USED TO BE.

I've seen the steady decline. Watched SWAT run in and out of this place. It's bad! I have 3 kids and I can't let them play outside. Teenagers run these 2 streets and vandalize, rob and disrespect everything around them, without a single care or fear. The police out here are so damn lazy! They take forever to get here and when they do, they act like you bothered them. We gave up on the police after being here for a year and having our truck windows busted out 4 times.

The sales of drugs in this neighborhood are INSANE! There are 11 year old kids slinging nickle bags for their lunch money! There are seriously disturbed people that live here too! My next door neighbors husband raped and beat an old woman for $15.00 in cash and a handful of change! WTF!? Oh, he only got a year for it too and moved back as soon as he was released. The management company are THIEVES! DO NOT EVER PAY RENT WITH A MO HERE! They'll deposit the money then tell you the MO "bounced"...again, WTF!? MO's DON'T BOUNCE!

I have 9 days left in this hole and I cannot wait to say goodbye to the crime, mouthy kids, bad parents who don't care, this worn out condo community, and terrible weather. This place should be torn down ASAP! WORTHLESS!

Whitehall Schools: some of the teachers are too pushy and nosy. No teacher should EVER show up at your house uninvited, to talk about your kid. They have parent/teacher conferences for that! There is quite a bit of bullying and NONE of the WCS take it seriously. I've noticed that MOST schools in the area (Columbus Public especially!) chalk it up to kids being kids and ignore it. When you have 8 and 9 year olds killing themselves, it's not just kids being kids...it's a REAL PROBLEM that needs to be handled! Ugh...thank God I got a way out of here

Small world, I grew up on Parklawn. I agree with everything you said, BTW.

I grew up right next to Whitehall, graduated from Walnut Ridge and let me tell you, Whitehall is a terrible city. There is nothing in Whitehall but crime.

You guys are not being objective at all. My little brother graduated from Whitehall HS and recently graduated college at the very selective Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Not saying it's a Dublin, but there are smart, talented people there.
You people are taking your experience in the bad parts of Whitehall and making blanket statements about all of Whitehall. That's called "being subjective".

Whitehall has its problems, but with DCSC there it's got a stable tax base; I think it will see a renaissance within the next 10 years as it offers great bang for the buck in terms of housing and proximity.

I agree with Dustin. I like being here. I am a homeowner not a renter. There are good and bad parts of a city everywhere. I have lived here for many years and feel very safe. My son is doing very well in school also. The principal is wonderful! I have had nothing but support for my child at Whitehall High School. To each his own but I feel it is wrong to say the whole city is a drug filled dump because of some of the not so nice areas. I am proud to live here.

I really like it here in Whitehall you can see where your tax dollars are began used the little carnivals they have for the children the school system fantastic they really try hard to help your children to learn! It takes everyone to do their part as well as helping to keep an eye out for each other. I can say Whitehall police is on it their here in like 2mins seriously if I ever need them!
