cell phone service in Columbus
I've looked at the coverage maps and maps with tower locations, but I would still like individual opinions. What carriers have good service in Columbus? Do you encounter a lot of dead zones? We are moving just south of Columbus and I am considering Sprint. My other option is Verizon. I'd prefer Sprint, but not if I lose calls, miss calls, or can't make calls within my home or encounter a lot of problems around the city. Any thoughts?

Just South as in Circleville/South Bloomfield/Ashville? or just South as in just South of downtown Columbus?
I personally don't have any issues at all with my Sprint service, but I live in Hilliard and I usually stay pretty close to the city or just into the suburbs.

I travel all over the 270 loop, 275 loop, up and down 71, 75, and never have any issue with Sprint coverage. However, don't go with Nextel as their service is different, and it cuts in and out way too much. I used to use Nextel phones up until 3 years ago.

I think with Columbus being a pretty decent sized city, you won't have problems with either. I've talked to people with both and they don't have any problems.

Okay, thanks guys. There are lots of poor reviews online, but there are lots of poor reviews of -everything- if you look for it.
And by south of Columbus I mean like <2 mile south of 270 by like Rathmell, Lockbourne, etc

I had Verizon when i lived in Columbus and don't think it ever dropped a call... prices were fairly competitive as well.

I have verizon for the past 5 years and have not had a dropped call. AT&T is big here though because they are the official sponsor of the OSU football team. I know someone with Sprint here in Columbus and they do complain about it. So I would stick with Verizon or AT&T. T-mobile is another choice but I do not know of any personal experiences. You could try going with those cheap Sprint or T-mobile pre-paid phones for a while to test the service so you don't have to commit to a 2 year agreement before deciding.
