I live in UA, and it's already basically been said. Rental houses are going to be easier to find closer to Grandview than they are north of Fishinger, and even then, be prepared to spend some money. UA is not an inexpensive place to live.

Thanks a lot to everybody for your advice.
Jasony0423, I currently live in Greenwich, CT... almost everywhere is less expensive than here (this is one of the reasons for our move)

yeah, UA is one of the pricier places in columbus, albeit very nice. i personally like the area around Lane Ave. the best...some very nice homes there. I used to live in Upper Arlington, but now own a place in Dublin.

Lane Ave = nice homes & Lane Ave shopping center has coffee shops, restaurants, nice little stores, close to campus, but far enough away from all the "noise" etc.... I recommend.

IMO, the best suburbs in Columbus = Dublin, New Albany & Upper Arlington....... all wealthier areas w/ very very good schools.

Dublin and New Albany are the living, breathing definition of cookie-cutter suburbanism. Places like Arlington and Bexley at least have character; Worthington and Westerville have nice central commercial corridors. But my goodness, Dublin and New Albany are just about the pits as far as I'm concerned. Then again, I'm someone for whom the idea of a Toll Brothers home situated along a cul-de-sac in a nondescript development with a name like "The Falls and Glenburry" is the definition of "hell".

yeah, to each their own i guess. i personally love living in dublin..safe, great schools, nice homes everywhere. of course upper arlington has more character...it's an older (upper class) suburb. i like ua b/c the big trees & there are some beautiful homes.

as far as bexley goes... yeah, it's nice but it's bordering lots of "ghetto" areas.

I am from Europe and I'd like to avoid "cookie-cutter suburbanism" as much as I can... although I realized over the years that in the US it is not easy, if not impossible, to find an area with character, walkable streets, shopping, good schools, all at the same time.

upper arlington is a good choice... great schools & definitely has the most character of anywhere in Columbus imo. Try to get a place close to Lane Avenue...nice homes & great shopping / restaurants/ coffee w/in walking distance.

I would add Grandview and Bexley to that list as well. Both very nice areas with good schools and walkable neighborhoods.

Also I would recommend looking near Old Worthington and downtown Westerville. Both have vibrant commercial corridors and very good schools.

grandview is nice, but it's more young professionals than families.. at least the parts i've seen that's the way it is. bexley = nice, but bordering very ghetto areas, so i'd stay away from bexley. old worthington is pretty nice if you're referring to the area on high street.....but upper arlington is still the best for what they want.
