Default What area do you like best in Upper Arlington?

Hi all,
My husband and I are relocating to Columbus and are looking for a house to rent in Upper Arlington. We have two young children and would like an area where it is easy to walk to a park, coffee shop, schools. (I am originally from Europe and love to walk!) We found some houses between 5th Ave. and Lane Ave. and others more north, around Fishinger Rd. - McCoy Rd.
We are going to take a trip there shortly to check out the different locations, but in the meantime I would like to ask what area you find the best in terms of "walkability" and accessibility of services, schools etc.
Thanks a lot!

I like the area around 5th, a lot of nice apartment options in the Marble Cliff vicinity.

Thanks a lot, NewToCA!
We are actually looking for a house, not an apartment, and we are going to take a trip there next weekend to see some.
Can I ask you why you like the area around 5th best? What is different compared with the areas north of there (e.g. Fishinger)?
Thanks again!

I am not sure you will have the "walkability" you are looking for North of Fishinger. I lived off of Nottingham for a while and I now I live in Grandview just South of 5th. There are areas of UA that are great for walking, but there isn't always much to walk too depending on where you live within the community. There isn't really a "downtown" to UA. The area South of 5th, known as Grandview Heights, has several restaurant, coffee shops, ect. UA has two "shopping plaza" areas know as Tremont Center and Kingsdale. Tremont actually has a nice bakery and few restaurant options. There is also an area along Lane Avenue that has several shops, a whole foods (?), and other restaurants.

As other1 stated, there are a lot of activities and stores in that area.

Laura, I've sent you a DM, but I live in UA a block South of Lane and about two blocks west of Northwest. From my house I can easily walk to Caribou Coffee and Lane Avenue Shopping Center. (Whole Foods/Bed, Bath and Beyond/Talbots/Anne Taylor Loft/White House-Black Market/NY and Co. and others)

About three blocks away is a small park in one direction and Northam Park in the other direction. I have three children who can each walk to their elementary, middle, or high school. A lot of kids walk or bike to school around here.

Although my street doesn't have sidewalks, many around here do and I really like this location.

The houses in this area are older than the ones North of Fishinger. A lot of those were built in the 50s/60s with architecture to match. The houses around here have a lot of character.

Thank you so much Weedydidi, it really sounds like a nice area. I hope we can find a house there, although it is not so easy to find rentals... but we might get lucky!

I like the area around the Kingsdale shopping center. Close to campus, but still very laid back.
