Best and most diverse places to live in ohio
Im a single mother of one relocating to Ohio from St. Louis, Missouri. My employer is located in Dublin. Im looking for areas around Dublin that would be suitable for my son and I. After reading some of the threads, I think Dublin itself may be a little too upscale for someone like me to live. I am an African American looking to stay in a pretty diverse area close to hospitals, grocery stores and shopping malls. I definitely need to be near really good hospitals; particularly a Children's hospital. My son was 3 months premature and still battling some respiratory issues. My son is in daycare but currently does half day pre-school, so being in an area with good schools is a MUST! Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you going to be renting or buying a house? How much do you want to spend?

Dublin and NW Columbus in general would never be confused with being overwhelmingly diverse. You might want to look in the Beechwold/Clintonville area. Unfortunately, the neighborhoods nearest Children's Hospital are not that safe or desirable.

Best and most diverse are not really all that interchangeable, unfortunately. I live in Upper Arlington, which is a great place to live, excellent schools, good people. It's probably the LEAST diverse suburb of Columbus, though.
I don't think that Hilliard is too bad, though.

Grandview Heights.
Diverse neighborhood, Riverside Hospital up the river and great schools. The Grandview Avenue corridor is very walkable too with some stores and shops.

I would suggest Marion Village.
One mile south west of Childrens hospital.
Pretty good schools, reasonable housing prices and close to the city and jobs.
I think that makes the place very desirable.

I don't think of Merion Village as a particulaly safe area. I had a couple of friends who lived there and the amount of property crime they witnessed was immense. It borders German Village, which is of course a nice area...but it also borders areas that are anything but nice.

When you say "diverse" you mean non-white, right? There's nothing wrong with this. I just want us to end the euphemisms and "code words." Why don't you like white people?

I don't think she was saying she didn't like white people otherwise she would've just said are there any areas that are predominately non white where she can live. What I think she is asking (which I think is a good question by the way), is there a place were she will be "welcomed" to live in that is somewhat of a melting pot and is a nice area. I thought she was clear enough in asking the question.
Like has been said, Dublin doesn't appear to be that diverse but the area of Columbus that borders Dublin and is apart of Dublin schools seems to be. Hilliard would also be a place you can look into as it seems to be a growing suburb, generally any of the newer communities around Dublin are cool, its one of the areas me and my wife are looking at when I retire from the Military. Other places to consider would be Westerville (my immediate family lives there) and Gahanna they are a longer drive but are also pretty diverse suburbs.
