Hello, my name is Scott, I just finished up my Master of Arts at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, I originally from south of Chicago. I am coming to OSU for my Master of Fine Arts starting in September. I have a couple of questions. First, I am looking for apartments (me and my fiancee 1bedroom, pets allowed would be nice) but I am looking specifically for apartments that would be near the graduate studios. I have no clue where the graduate studios are located because I have not visited the area yet. I am planning a trip out there in the next couple weeks but would like to start my search for an apartment. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to look in that area or nearby that would be reasonable (300-500 range) that would be great. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a nice cheap hotel that is close to campus that I can stay at for my visit? Any info at all about either of these questions would be a great help. Thanks in advance for anyone to replies. I really appreciate it.

-Scott

Default Dad of OSU Grad

My kid went to OSU for his undergraduate degree, and although I don't know the specific location of your building(s) I can tell you that many of the grad students live in apartments in the Victorian Village area (Neil Ave south of 9th) and just off Olentangy River Rd.

Can't be of much help beyond that, but perhaps it gives you a starting point.

I would check into one of the apartments at the south campus gatway, mostly grads and young professionals.

Or the short north, victorian village areas, grandview, harrison west, italian village, those are all very close to OSU, yet more wealthy areas with some rentals that would be nice yet if you look hard enough still affordable. Also, Clintonville is just north of osu and worth looking into.

Olentangy Village is not far as well.

Default more information

I got some more information in case it will help anyone with providing me information on where to look for apartments. The art studios are in Hopkins and Hayes Halls. The addresses for these halls are

Hayes - 108 N Oval Mall
Hopkins - 128 N Oval Mall

If this helps anyone with suggestions. That would be awesome. Thank you for the help so far to anyone who provided it.

Default Hayes and Hopkins

Both buildings are on the north side of the campus. I would recommend looking for an apartment either along either Lane or Norwich Avenues, between Indianola and Perry St. An alternative is to look for an apartment north of Lane on High St, up to about Tompkins St.

Anything with an address on "Oval Mall" is going to be on or near The Oval—the very heart of campus. Nice apartments are plentiful just north of Lane Ave. on either side of High St. which are fairly close to The Oval.

Once you're north of 15th, the east side of High St. really isn't bad (compared to south of 15th). Again, there is some relatively attractive housing up in that area especially along the Iuka ravine.

Also, I would add my "dittos" to FoxandHound's suggestion that you check out Olentangy Villages, a little further north in Clintonville. I've had friends who lived there, and they are really classy apartments! I'm pretty sure they also welcome pets (cats, at least).

Best of luck!
