It's well known around Columbus that German Village is very gay friendly, as is the Short North.

Just take a stroll on Craigslist and you'll see just how many gay men are on there looking for sex.
Just take a look on Craigs and you'll see how many straight men are looking for sex.

I can say with pretty good confidence that you would like German village.
I live there. Next to a gay guy in his 40's (we are in our 40's and the place is pretty much geared to older singles and couples. As opposed to the short north which is best when you are in your 20's)
German village is very conservative, laid back and beautiful.
My favorite neighborhood in Columbus. I consider myself very lucky that I ended up moving there.

Your biggest problem will be what to do with all you home equity. You can get a very nice place for around $150K, or a mansion for $500K. Taxes are about the same as California. Culture and food here is sorely lacking.

If your heart is set on the intersection of the bible belt and the midwest, this ain't a bad place.

Feel free to PM me for details.
Thank you everyone for the posts. I don't have to worry about home equity. Most of my assets are in my 401k. I have been priced out of the housing market ever since I've lived here and was not one of those people willing to take out some insane loan that I wouldn't be able to pay back anyway.

Home ownership is not genrally a big deal for me. I actually like apartment living. I'm more concerned about finding a decent apatrment (can be a studio) that I can comfortably afford on a moderate income.

And while you're there, how many "straight" men and women are looking for sex online? How many "MWMs" looking for men to hook up with?

Back to the OP--I spent a weekend in Columbus recently and can attest that it is VERY gay-friendly. The Columbus Men's Chorus is among the cream of the crop on the national scene as far as gay men's choruses, for example.

I think it would be a good experience. You will feel welcome, but also see a different side of the United States... I imagine living in SanFran is like living in a liberal bubble. (I'm liberal myself - not trying to sound ignorant)

p.s. THE SHORT NORTH IS AWESOME. The gays bars are kinda... VERY slutty

Also, they're talking about making a light rail system on High Street that would connect the SHort North with Downtown. Probably a bit of a waste but thought I would share

What's the point in that? There are already a high number of buses that go up and down that section of downtown anyways.

The streetcar line was to go from southern University District through downtown to near German Village.

That would take over 30 minutes walking (and that is walking very fast.) I work and live on High St. and I use the bus frequently to go from one area of High St. to another. Anyone that has been to a large city knows that mass transit for linear main streets is necessary. This is the purpose that a streetcar would serve, and more frequent and with later hours than the bus.

Anyhow. I can't sell this to someone who doesn't deem it necessary. I guess from my standpoint it is because I actually use the Number 2 on HIgh St. and would use the proposed street car. I can also see the difference between the two and have been to cities that have linear/short distance mass transit systems (Toronto is my favorite.) The subway connects long distances and the street cars are used once you get off the subway to navigate between neighborhoods.

I still don't see how we got on this topic in this LGBT thread. But anyhow I would highly recommend columbus for settled LGBT female or male. It can also be lots of fun for a younger single type, but Columbus is a great place for a settled person as well. (lower home prices, jobs (if you can find one), many neighborhoods that are gay friendly, and a decent amount of culture including the gay men's chorus/theaters/sports/opera/ballet/museums/etc.)
