Safe neighborhoods near downtown-Grandview, Clintonville, Beechwold, Victorian Village and Harrison West. (5 minutes away)

10-15 minute commute-Hilliard, Grove City, Worthington, Westerville and Gahanna.

All of these are relatively safe communities. (depending on your idea of safe.) You can check out crime stats at columbuspolice.org
I second this post. I do have to agree, I have always lived off of 315. The highway seems more accessible and all of Columbus' most sought suburbs and city neighborhoods are off of 315. Plus there is the biketrails and parks along the Olentangy River that follows 315. WEST of I 71 is generally a more sought after area of the city. 315 is just west of I 71, to clarify.

I am new to this forum. I live on Azelda St. (2800 blk.) just south of Weber Rd. and I want to say in within the last two years I have moved here , this area has seen improvements. I noticed alot of houses being fixed up and even closer to Hudson St. (north) is looking better. There is a vigilant police presence and I noticed on several blocks close to me there are several block watches with warning signs " Criminals Beware" .There are alot of homeowners including myself that are on the lookout for criminal activity. There has hardly been any middle class flight since I moved here. In fact a hipster couple moved next door to my husband and I a few months ago. At night I'd beware of my surroundings of course and as a woman I would not walk alone. My neighborhood does seem to be getting better. However at this point, east of McGuffey Rd. below Weber gets kind of sketchy and and without a doubt avoid south of Hudson St.

I can't believe one of the easiest questions to answer in this entire Columbus forum has gotten so far off track... I know everyone is sick of hearing this but come on, say it with me slowly. Shoorrrt Nooorrtth//////Viiccctoorrriann Villlaaaggee.

EDIT: Oh... and I agree with Streetcreed about north of Weber. It used to be a heavily populated German area that has changed in demographics over the decades but has remained well enough intact and an outstanding place to look for a good deal on a small (really small) house. It's just not very close to downtown.
