Just bought a Dell inspirion 570 and when I set it up I noticed I didnt hear any beep or noise when starting up or shutting down. I then got the wise idea to add some speakers...They are Logitek and seem easy to hook up satellite speakers into subwoofer, subwoofer to volume pod into monitor. SW has power plug. Ive contacted Dell and Logitek support and followed the basics of turning off and on rechecking wiring etc. I did get static when I put the connectors in the monitor ports.

Any suggestions?

Where, exactly, are you connecting the speakers to? They typically connect to a light green hole on the back of the computer. You can troubleshoot by plugging any set of earbuds into that port. Go to Control Panel, Sound, then the Sounds tab. Click a Windows event that has a speaker icon next to it and push the test button. If the earbuds make some sound, the problem lies with your speakers, not your computer.

Try plugging directly into the back of the PC instead.

There are 6 spots for adding surround sound in the back of the PC would any of them work? I thought it would be of the audio in/out connections on the monitor.

The audio I/O on the monitor only works if the monitor is plugged into the back of the PC just like the speakers need to be. So remove the cable that goes from the monitor to the output on the PC and plug in the speakers. This assumes a number of things, one of which is the plug location. The light green outlet is the one to use on the PC.

If you have spots, they are probably the following...

Side L/R surround connector
Rear L/R surround connector
Centre subwoofer connector
Microphone connector
Line-out connector
Line-in connector

If they are colored, line-out in usually green, line-in is blue, and the microphone input is red. You want the green connector.

On the monitor or the back of the PC?

On the back of your computer there are 6 ports for audio. The middle one on the bottom is the output you want. Don't plug into your monitor at all.
